I've been trying to start a tradition of watching a scary movie on Halloween night. I'm not sure what to watch this year though.
I don't really want NOES type stuff. I loved them as a kid, but now that i'm an adult they don't give me the scare I'm looking for. They are almost amusing now.

I like creepy, suspenseful, can still scare a mature adult kind of movie. Watched the original Amityville last year and that was creepy as frick, if only b/c I know it was based on a true story b/c the murders did happen, even if the paranormal stuff was a lie.
Year before last I did 1408(or something to that effect) with John Cusack. Started off promising, but quickly turned stupid and unbelievable to me.

Can anyone recommend a good scary movie that isn't all slasher/blood and gore etc. A good scary movie doesnt have to even show blood imo.

Is the George C Scott Changeling anything like the Angelina Jolie Changeling? Was that one a remake?

No completely different. It's a haunting, old house, ghost story. The story is fantastic.

If you can deal with foreign language films I definitely recommend:
A Tale Of Two Sisters
and
The Devil's Backbone

However the recommendation for The Changeling is spot on.

While a bit slow - The Clint Eastwood directed Jolie Changeling is pretty uncomfortable and disturbing as well. A very underrated/underappreciated movie.

A more "fun" movie that's very well done is The Frighteners.

Watch Henry: A portrait of a Serial Killer...Old 80's movie that was shot in a very gritty/realistic way. It's scary because it seems so real and is kind of fricked up. Scary movies don't spook me, but this one was eerie to me

I wouldn't call that a Halloween movie.

It's just disturbing and humorless and depressing and pointless except to be "real" in what it's trying to do. I really didn't see the entertainment value.
