I've seen this movie 40 times probably. Try to check out Cocaine Cowboys on Showtime. Its a documentary about Miami at that time period. Scarface is a watered down version of Miami according to that movie. Really good documentary.

Scarface is probably one of the shittiest movies I have ever waisted time watching.

I'm friends with a guy that was a cocaine cowboy in Miami in those days and eventually did time for his activities. He had never heard of the documentary, I talked him into checking it out. He finally watched it recently and was surprised at how accurate it was, he remembered the news reports that they highlighted in the documentary.
