If you like Wes Anderson movies at all then you will like this movie. I do think Rushmore and Fantastic Mr Fox are better, but this movie was very entertaining and original.

The characters and small details once again are outstanding. I'd say 4.5/5 stars. The acting was superb. My girlfriend also loved it.

Wes Anderson is my favorite recent director.

Glad to hear the movie is good.

To GtG: why do you hate the movie?

To be fair, have you seen any of his previous work? If so what did you think of that?

It wasn't funny. Dry humor can be funny but this wasn't. I didn't laugh once.

The little boy was a terrible actor and the whole underwear business was just awkward and strange.

The storyline was dull as well.

I've seen the royal tenenbaums and thought that was descent but this movie was just fricking terrible.

To me this was Life Aquatic meets Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Both really quirky.

@ George: I understand what you mean. It's ok to have different tastes.

Unless you have a love/hate relationship with Anderson:

Rushmore followed by Royal T. are two of my favorite movies of any director.

But I disliked Life Aquatic and Darjeeling to the point of disavow that Anderson made them.

I have a suspicion this movie will fall in the later category or somewhere in between.

I really wanted to like the movie but I came out of it pretty much agreeing with this. I think terrible may be too strong but it was definitely lacking and no where near the 96% or whatever it's at on RT. It's one of those movies where people are going to shite themselves over the subtle/dry humor involved and call it great. It had funny moments but overall was pretty bad.

It reminded me a lot of Harold and Maude and obviously other WA films. I liked royal tenenbaums a lot better.

Just got back, it wasn't overly funny but I still really enjoyed it. Thought both of the main characters did a great job. I don't know if the rest of the theater didn't like it or just wasn't familiar Wes Anderson films because my fiancee and I were some of the only ones to laugh.

Bring familiar with someone's films has no bearing on if the current film is funny or not, so they probably just didn't like it.

I also really disliked Darjeeling and Life Aquatic. Tenenbaums was ok to mediocre to me.

I thought MK was funny, but I can very easily see how people could really dislike it. My GF and I both agreed we would only recommend this movie to people who like this kind of movie.

I found it to be much more in line with Rushmore.

went to a 11am show today..

about 45 minutes into it, the damn power went out. it quickly came back on. 10 min later we had the movie skipped ahead with no sound. 5 min later we had sound. then they didn't rewind back far enough. i walked out and got a movie ticket replacement.
