Which had better writing?
Better acting?

I liked Salute Your Shorts better, but neither was as good as Pete and Pete.

I remember liking Salute Your Shorts more as a show but Hey Dude had the better theme song and Christine Taylor.

Ug > Ernst
Budnick/Donkey Lips > Ted

Hey Dude does have the advantage of having way more episodes b/c Nickelodeon canceled Shorts after two years when the cast wasn't willing to move from LA to Orlando to shoot at Nickelodeon Studios.

This thread, I hold it in my heart. But when I think about it, it makes me want to fart.

Was that why? They should have upped ug's and maybe Bobby's salaries and brought in a new cast. It's a summer camp show, New people come and others go. that could have transitioned.

Budnick went on to be a huge Hollywood star with his roles in Terminator 2 and Pet Sematary 2. He wasn't coming back to some lame kid's show.

Melody and Brad FTW

Both were awesome. Haven't seen either one in a long time but overall I just remember SYS more as the gutbusting laughter show and Hey Dude as fun but more about lessons and Ted being a douche with a heart of gold, which kinda got played out after a while.

Fun side note--There was an episode on Hey Dude where Ted got his jeans wet and then covered in dirt and played it off by saying that's how you break them in. I actually used that excuse in a similar situation as a kid IRL.
