I haven't seen either of those movies yet, but I stopped using RT a long time ago.

I saw act of valor last night.

Their critics complaints are about how the acting sucks. Well no shite, they didn't use actors.

Exactly. They used real life, active-duty Navy Seals.

I saw it last night with my dad and this movie was amazing to me. What suprised me was how well the seals carried out their mission and how cold blooded they were. They were so damn organized, efficient, decisive and ruthless. One example of their organization was when they sniped that guy on the landing walk and they caught him before he fell into the water. Damn, thinking ahead.

They also used technolgy that I had no clue existed like the mini plane flying over surveying the area and the mini sub from the submarine. I would also have a freaking heart attack skydiving from the altitude they jumped from. Also when those boats came up and ripped arse with those 50 cals, WOW.

This is literally the shite, Navy Seals, Delta Force, Army Rangers, and Green Berets go through everyday. Wow.

I'm stopping today, I've had it with their harsh ratings.

Dont they just collect critics' ratings and average them out?

Yes, and they are a pretty good source to determining good movies alot of the time.

Legitimate complaint for a movie critic. That is part of what they are paid to criticize.

Yes. It's amusing that someone is claiming to leave the site without ever using it in the first place. Or at least, I'd hope that a user of the site would figure out how it works eventually.

But in any case, review aggregation is a bit of a weird thing. 30% of reviewers did like the film, which is pretty good considering some of the factors that have been mentioned. It's better to find three or four critics who have the same taste as you and follow their recommendations instead of looking at the opinion of reviewers as a whole I guess.

None of that equals a good movie...except from a technical accuracy perspective.

It equals entertainment, which is what the movies are about. I like my fair share of drama with great acting. Hell, I would watch DDL in almost any role, in any movie. But sometimes, I want to watch a badass military group on screen kick-arse with real tactics and gadgets, because thats entertaining and enjoyable. I don't have to think about the world or anything for an hour and a half. Who cares what some snobby douche critic thought.

Because it's entertaining does not mean it's a good movie. I was entertained by Sucker Punch and From Hell but they're not good movies.

If you are entertained (And not just by tits which was the case for Sucker Punch) and thoroughly enjoyed the movie, who's to say it isn't a good movie? Is that not a movies job?

Depends on whose definition of a good movie you are using. For me, entertainment value means more than technical aspects of the film. For others, the opposite is the case. It's all a matter of perspective.

What's your point? It's a film isn't it? Seems like a valid point.

To entertain is definitely a movie's primary job, but I also look at how fresh/good is the story, how good is the acting, did the movie try to do anything new, is it constructed well, did it make me think about it an hour after I saw it?

I'm sure Act of Valor is an entertaining romp with lots of good action, but saying it's not a good movie does not mean you hate America. If it didn't have active duty Navy SEALs in it, it's just Tears of the Sun, or "insert mostly forgettable armed forces movie" here.

Well isn't that doing something new, to have active Navy SEALs in the movie? And plenty of people have said that they think after that movie, from the tactics to theres actually people that can do that? It is a good movie compared to what it is, an entertaining and fresh war movie.
