The film is an epic telling of the Battle of Midway, a turning point in the Pacific theater of World War II. The story follows the real soldiers and aviators who pulled off the unbelievable to turn the tide of the war in June 1942.

I hope they dont push a love story in the middle of this like Pearl Harbor.

This will be more along the lines of Pearl Harbor than Saving Private Ryan.

Tell me, why should I trade 1 island 3,000 miles away for 3,000 islands 1 mile away?

Midway is an historic, fantastic battle.
I hope they do it justice.
My grandfather was on a destroyer escort for it. Said it was the most intense naval battle he took part in during the war

If his other movies are any indication, this is going to be the worst arse whipping on the Japanese military by one person since the days of putting a man in the Godzilla costume.

Anyone but Roland Emmerich, and I'm including Michael Bay or M Night Shyamalan. No director of his generation has been so consistently shitty.

At best it will be glorious schlock like The Patriot. Expect something more attune to Godzilla where there will be silly ridiculous Japanese people and completely fail to sell them or the American troops seriously. Also expect some minority that people were pleased to fight alongside.

Let Nolan direct it. You'd only need one Japanese dive bomber and one American carrier.

That could be a great movie without adding a bunch of bullshite to the story like Bay's Pearl Harbor.

I recently watched "WWII in HD" and one of the featured vets was on the Samuel B. Roberts. He was 17 years old at the time of the battle and ~65 years later (it was filmed around 2010, IIRC) you could tell he was still haunted by the battle and its aftermath. Those DD and DE skippers, and crews, had gigantic brass balls.

It was, but it was hampered by a love story they tried to shoehorn into it - a lesson that Michael Bay didn't learn for Pearl Harbor.

But, the non-Chuck Heston's son scenes portions of Midway (1976 - in motherfrickin' Sensurroud) - is a fantastic and underrated war film.

In terms of old WWII movies (so not including SVP), the movie "Midway" from 1976 is one of the best. I'd rank it below "Tora, Tora, Tora," "The Longest Day," and "A Bridge Too Far," but it's one of my favorites.

There's a lot of good ones I'm forgetting but those are some of the best. No reason we can't make modern movies about WWII but I could watch a rotation of those and be just fine.

I loved the 1970's Midway growing up. If this one is done correctly, the air combat scenes should be incredible.
