I just finished Boardwalk Empire and I found the time period extremely interesting.

Are there any other good shows or films about this this era?

The Roaring Twenties -- w/ Jimmy Cagney and Humphrey Bogart

The Last Flight (1931) is a story of the "Lost Generation", concerning a group of American WWI vets who stay in Europe, wander around and get drunk a lot. It closely resembles Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, but is based on a different source.

In my favorite scene the hero and heroine visit Pere Le Chaise cemetery, where Eloise and Abelard, Oscar Wilde, and Jim Morrison (among many others) are buried

Remember this and The Roaring Twenties were made by people who experienced the era personally

Here is a classic documentary on the era:

The Jazz Age (1956)

Narrated the great radio comedian Fred Allen, it's an affectionate if sometimes irreverent portrait of the era's personalities and fads. This is so good I've considered posting it in my "Pick Of The Day" thread. But no one reads that... Maybe someone will watch it from here.

If you're interested in reading on the subject:

The author was an editor of The New York Post who'd been a cub reporter in the '20s and covered many of the stories first hand.

Here is an entire web site dedicated to the book, which includes many chapters with photos.

Hoodlum with Laurence Fischburne. If you've seen American Gangster, it's based on the guy who was Frank Lucas' mentor, his name was Bumpy Johnson. It's a great film and Tim Roth plays a badass gangster too. It has a great cast all around.

Also, I personally really liked the Johnny Depp movie 'Public Enemies.'

Oh and of course Bonnie and Clyde, the Beatty/Dunaway film.

Cinderella Man does an excellent job of portraying the 1930s

Ken Burns' Prohibition is the definitive answer. Real history, real drama, reel good.

Also, I know it's fiction..
But 90s dick Tracy is a fun watch. Overacting at its finest.
