Re-watched The Sixth Sense last night

My girlfriend had never seen it, and it's one of my all-time favorite movies, in the horror genre or any genre.
Haley Joel Osment was just perfect and I'm a little surprised he didn't grow up to be one of the next great actors of our generation. His performance is just so beyond a child of his years.
Toni Collette, another Oscar nominee from the movie, was really powerful and convincing as a single mom trying to hold it together with a son she thinks is absolutely insane.
The scene with him and her in the car at the end, where he reveals his abilities and talks about his grandmother, gets me every time. The sheer emotional impact of that scene gives me goosebumps. In fact, several scenes have that affect on me.
Bruce Willis probably should have received an Oscar nomination for his role, as he was so convincing as a ghost oblivious to being dead and doing all he could to help HJO.
The scares in the movie are impactful and not over the top. A young Mischa Barton delivers the top scare in the movie, and I remember seeing this movie 17 years ago in theaters and that scene freaking me out.
And the ending...and complete shocker at the time as nothing like that had been done before.
Anyway, I love this movie and if you haven't watched it in a while, you should. It holds up incredibly well.

M Night Shamalamadingdong's rise and fall is something else.
He was the genius of all geniuses when it came to twists and thrillers and now he's a laughing stock.
I'll never forgive him for The Happening, but Sixth Sense is one of my all-time favorites as well.

Yeah, all of the Shamalyan's movies suck except Sixth Sense and Signs. Lady in the Water, Village, and Happening are particularly awful.
The Sixth Sense is bad arse. One of my favorite BW films

I get that she had never seen but I'm guessing she knew the spoiler that Bruce Willis was dead. If not, I'd be curious to hear how she reacted to the reveal.

Nah, it's an OK movie. I think Shyamalan got caught up in being Shyamalan and kept trying to top himself at the expense of crafting a story.

Someone ruined it for me before I got a chance to see it... and I'm not talking about years later.

She knew the twist ahead of time but really enjoyed how they hid it from the audience. I also explained to her that the people seeing this movie weren't even guessing he was dead, as that hadn't been done before really in a big movie.
The score was another one of her favorites, being that her career is in music.

Signs???????????? That movie was beyond terrible. The Village was much better.

Yeah it's a really good movie. I haven't seen it in a while though. Might need to give it a rewatch.

Personally, I wouldn't say The Village was awful. I thought it was pretty decent. I watched a little bit of Lady in the Water again the other night and it is laughably bad. The whole movie is just ridiculous. Especially the Korean chick getting information from her mother

I enjoy Signs and Unbreakable, but not on the same level as The Sixth Sense. The Village was also okay for that it was. The Happening was very bad, and it's been a long time since I've seen The Lady in the Water, but I remember not hating it.
His most recent movie, The Visit, was really good. A fun mix of creepy and funny, with a nice little twist at the end, but very normal for M. Knight.

6th Sense was great and far and away his best....at least that I know of. However, I find myself stopping to watch "Devil" every time I come across it. I know its not that good but for some reason I find it extremely watchable.

This was such a dumb movie. He should have stopped after "Unbreakable."

Just looked it up because I hadn't heard of it, I'm going to check it out
Another one of his that sucked - Devil

I'll always jump in to defend Signs. Why do you guys hate it?
Devil was pretty solid as well (even though he didn't direct). Interesting little movie.
I also think The Village gets a lot of unjust hatred. It was a really solid thriller, even if you figured out the twist (which I call bullshite on most that say they did).
I actually think The Happening was a decent idea for a movie, it was just executed and acted VERY poorly, and it sucked pretty hard.
Signs is great though, and obviously Sixth Sense is great as well. And Unbreakable is a cool twist on a popular genre.
I haven't seen his others though.

signs?
That movie blew. I'd never seen it until like 6 months ago and was pretty excited based on it having a fairly ok reputation. It was hot garbage. The "twist" at the end was something a high schooler would do at the end of an essay project but didn't have any good ideas so just threw something together.
SPOILERS..
Water? This creepy scary monstrous alien hoarde is wreaking havoc and the key to kill them is water? Umm, ok I guess. And to make it worse, once they realized this, instead of finding the nearest water and throwing it on everyone in sight (ya know, like a normal human would do) I think someone takes a baseball bat and tried to like hit a home run with the water glass into an alien. Gimme a break.

I got them reading this sentence. One of the most powerful moments in cinematic history.
