If you're being serious, Sneakers is an outlandish movie regarding a crew of misfit former intelligence community people. It's fun and semi far fetched, although not ridiculous enough to prevent it being enjoyable. I loved it as a kid and still do.
I was being serious.

It's not outlandish or ridiculous at all. Agencies have been dreading and lusting for the ultimate code breaker since modern codes began. shite, I used to live down the street from the CIA. Their office in Langley has at its entrance a 4-sided codex that still hasn't been completely solved. The movie is a fun exploration into what might happen if someone finally created an algorithm that could break any code. I don't think a lot of people really appreciate how serious that would really be.

It's also a great illustration of early hackers and their peculiar ways, going back to the 60's and into the dawn age of the modern internet. Not far-fetched at all.

Just watched this last night. I came into it late and thought I was at the beginning. After going back and watching the real beginning, I can see where some would find it boring. I loved it. I also think it could have been better with different timing of the events. This is a movie I'll probably watch every time it comes on.

Agree that The Good Shepherd is more enjoyable if you are someone who is already "into" the history of espionage, particularly the OSS/CIA and James Jesus Angleton, who Matt Damon's character is mostly based on.
