Mickey is the best and is being ruined this season along with everyone else due to focus on the wife. I can't wait for season 6, which has tremendous promise once we get beyond this useless storyline.

The show has some great high points but seems to often get away from what makes it awesome IMO, Ray regulating and owning shite two steps ahead of everyone else. I haven't started the new season yet.

How you figure that? Once a series starts Showtiming[*], it doesn't recover.

* I propose "Showtiming" to describe a series that is allowed to outlive its initial awesomeness by running twice as long as it should. Ex. Dexter, Californication, Weeds, all programs Showtime ran into the ground.

Not quite, but testing my patience big time with dumb shite cry baby Bunchy and multitude of Abby encore appearances.

Sounds right up there with Jumping the shark.

I guess TWD would be another example?
For Ray I don't feel it's a time issue as much as a lost in the weeds issue, focusing on the wrong shite losing focus on what makes it good.

I still like it although this season is the weakest

I think Homeland bunks the Showtiming theory. They have reinvented the show since a major character died in season 3 and i think the past few seasons have been top notch.

Ray Donovan is an odd bird. The material hasn't been good for a while, but I'm still watching it, which is a testament to the casting and character development.

Just because a show has run a long time doesn't mean it's showtiming.

Mini-spoiler alert: That black chick did not even glance for traffic before blasting across the street at the end of the last episode. I knew in advance she was dead.
