Those are the only 2 I really enjoyed. I haven't seen any of TAS movies in years.

I'll rank them later, but Phantasm is the best. I think that is still the best Batman origin story. I loved how Batman falls in love, tries to not become Batman, but is ultimately doomed to sorrow and the man he was always supposed to be.

Also this may be the single greatest Batman scene ever, and something sorely missing from Batman Begins: LINK

It's what all the live action movies fail to get about the character. It's the only non-comic iteration in which Batman / Bruce Wayne is actually interesting and conflicted. Conroy's warmth and humanity is also what's missing from other performances.

I think Nolan realized by the time of "The Dark Knight Rises" that he fricked up on Alfred in the origin, since the only slight apprehension he shows up to that point is when the Batmobile shows up on the news. Nolan tries to get this part of Alfred's personality in the final one, but it's too late.

I just love the animated version who tries to steer Bruce away from being Batman by any means possible, and then when he puts on the mask, holy shite, is that great. You know that he knows he's completely lost Bruce and that he knows that the boy he raised has been engulfed by Batman. Where Batman went mentally in the long term was the best case scenario for Alfred, but he knows that he is totally consumed at this point by his alter ego. Alfred's fear is that Batman turns into the Phantasm or the Red Hood. Nolan's Batman Begins needed this scene instead of Alfred blindly going along with it.

Interested to see thoughts on this, with Arkham Knight coming out last week I've got some Batman fever.

Actually just watched Batman: Year One & Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

Phantasm, Dark Knight Returns (P1 & 2) & the Red Hood are all on my list to watch.

I forgot about Year One. I didn't like it that much, but I don't love the comic as much as others do.

Mask of the Phantasm is not only the greatest Animated Batman movie, but it's also the greatest Batman film period.

Yes even better than the beloved TDK and BB.

Flame away.
