Just got out of this because the wife wanted to see it.

Pretty good little movie, but I want to take a second and give whoever made the trailer props. From it, it seems that Lawrence doesn't come from much and becomes some kind of successful businesswoman.

You really have no idea what the movie's about even though you (you being the target audience in this case, perhaps not you the reader of this post) are interested. Let alone that its about a fricking mop and QVC .

Perfect kind of trailer. So many now are just three minute summaries of the movie, so kudos to that guy.

Agree.

I had to read reviews to learn it was HSN lady.

It felt like Magnolia trailer - but it was just mop lady.

Neither David O. Russel nor Jennifer Law have ever really done anything that sucked over their respective careers.

I've been looking forward to seeing this movie myself.

It's good but not great

There is a reason most critics have give it a C+/B-

It's just not that interesting. It's old worn movie ground.

Struggling Mom wants to make money so she will stop being a struggling Mom and no believes in her to make money except she will sell her soul to make money.

Okay...how many times have we seen that?

I did not dislike Joy - but the story is razor-thin.

Felt like a more stylized but completely transparent "Where the Heart Is" which is a far superior movie and has a soul to it.

There is no soul in "Joy."

Why would this be a good thing? Who want's to go see a movie when they have no idea what it's about?

True. But this is probably my least favorite DOR movie.

It did make me laugh a lot in the first hour, though.

It wasn't a bad movie but it was bland enough that I felt seeing it in theaters was a waste.

Yeah, even my wife who is a huge fan of JL was disappointed. It was just bland

I try to do it as often as possible. It's a rare treat to sit down to a movie and know absolutely nothing about it.

We saw "The One I Love" without knowing who was in it or what it was about. That DEFINITELY added to the enjoyment of the film.

With Russell's films it's usually not about the main plot, but the characters. The Fighter wasn't just another boxing movie, because of the characters. American Hustle wasn't just another historical FBI movie, because of the characters.

It's not that Joy went from rags to riches. It's that she did that while having bizarre relationships with her dad, half-sister, ex-husband, mother, the plumber, her contact at the TV network, her manufacturer, and on and on and on. That's what makes it an interesting movie.

The movie is great especially if you want to renew your faith in the free enterprise system. The real-life Joy has more than 100 patents.

I avoid trailers now a days because they give you way too much information and leave little surprise in the experience of watching the movie.
