After watching this scene, and the "oh shite, omar is coming" scene, I think its time i finally see it.

How realistic is it? Does it stay reasonably realistic or does it go nuts?

Very realistic, never goes nuts.

My favorite show of all time. Watch it.

From my understanding, its both the gangsters and the cops. would you consider the police side of things realistic as well. more first 48 than CSI?

Just watch it dummy. Best advice I've heard with respect to starting The Wire is watch 3 or 4 in a row to get the ball rolling.

ETA: Why are you hung up on this question before you start? Just watch it.

I have never seen these shows, but I can't imagine them being more realistic than the wire.

Like the poster said, watch the first 3 or 4 in a row. The character development in this show is insane.

If your a person that only wants explosions, high speed chases, OK Corral type shoot outs, probaly won't be for you though.

Actually no. For the most part yes, but there are a few points where you will think: "This would never, ever happen."

It is as realistic as it gets. Co-writer for the show was a veteran homicide detective in Baltimore. It also had many seminal criminologists as consultants. The first season has been used in many prestigious universities as courses on 'war on drugs' or 'poverty and crime within the us', etc...

Just finished season 3 and I'm hooked. People who have seen the whole thing, how would you rank the seasons?

Season 1 is unbelievable and then season 2 to me takes it down but stick with it cause season 3 and 4 are the best TV you will ever watch and Season 5 was meh.

Honestly, I really have to question the decision making for anyone who is over 20 and hasn't already watched this series. And for the people that have watched and don't like it...forget about it.

Like I said, I just finished season 3. I thought that had to be as good as it gets. Seeing that the consensus is that season 4 is even better pumps me up so much I might watch all of 4 this weekend lol

Same here. Its different for me because I actually work on the docks (Coal terminal in Mobile).

I think they did some of their best police work in Season 2 also.
