My ratings of these three:

Prettiest: 3, 1, 2 Sexiest: 2, 3, 1

1. Lizabeth Scott

2. Veronica Lake

3. Lauren Becall

Please no post 1950 pics. No one wants to know how they ended up.

Any better ones?

Love her old movies but never thought she was really that pretty. My post is the result of watching The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) last night. Wanted more of Lizabeth and less of Barbara.

Rita Hayworth in GILDA.

Gene Tierney in LAURA.

Agree with Veronica Lake. GLASS KEY, for example.

Best noir male lead: Robert Mitchum. Can't get any cooler.

Yeah, Stanwyck is a great actress but she's not really all that beautiful. Love her in Meet John Doe.

But Ava Gardner looks like she would make all of your dirtiest dreams come true. She was a sexpot.

Classic publicity photo of the cast smiling like best buds, when in the movie itself they're all trying to kill each other

Good one. She is really hot in:

and she knew how to handle The Chairman of the Board!

I've also been watching a lot of the Barbara Stanwyck movies that TCM has been showing this month.

Now, while she wasn't classically as pretty as Veronica Lake, or Marilyn Monroe, she had that certain "je ne sais quois" that actresses like Julia Roberts has; like Myrna Loy had; like Bette Davis had.

She oozed sensuality and sexuality when the role called for it.

But, yes, Lizabeth Scott was very beautiful in The Strange Love of Martha Ivers.

The director barely spoke English

All he told her was:

"First half -- good girl.

Send half -- bad girl."

She was one of those high maintenance women that would cost a man a lot of money. Was into technology back in the day.

Tell "We don't need no stinkin' English" to Peter Sellers, who thought hiring Vittorio De Sica to direct a script by Neil Simon was a great idea...
