"PG-13 is supposed to be pushing the envelope of PG, not pulling R backwards."

WTF Happened to PG-13?

We've all complained about R rated movies being turned into PG-13 flicks (WWZ for example). Good video showing the history of PG-13 and the difference between the 80's PG and PG-13 vs today's PG-13.

It's an 18 min video, but I thought it was worth the watch.

Yep. Purely political. Cameron's Titanic shows overt violence, maiming, and frontal nudity and gets a PG-13. South Park Movie, a cartoon, was originally slapped with an NC-17 due to one spoken comment about God.

The video has dozens of examples of nudity, gore, and cursing on PG movies from the 80's. Of course that led to the creation of PG-13, but it just goes downhill from there.

I think the real joke is what PG stand for - Parental Guidance.

Does anyone really expect that these days?

I remember as a kid only being able to watch "G" rated movies at school.
At home.. my parents just covered my eyes for the nudity.
My first movie as a kid was Jaws3d.

Every movie should be labelled much like a video game.

Independence Day
- Violence
- Science Fiction
- Blood
- Human fatalities
- Brief sexual content
- Adult themes

Boom. Parents can decide if they want their children to watch that movie.

The problem with today's society is that parents don't want the responsibility of having to decide, they want someone else to decide for them.

Fantastic doc, and truly shows how fricked the ratings system is.

Also, I always love how Jaws is rated PG, but has full frontal chick nudity.

God forbid people have to pay attention to their kids.

Really it's like the other people have said who mention This film has not yet been rated. It's all about politics and money. I'm pretty sure the MPAA people can be bribed, and an R or PG-13 has a big effect on how much money a movie can make.

If you look in the little box with the rating on previews it does list stuff like violence, drug use, adult themes, etc.

Saw an article where it wasn't cool anymore to watch g rated movies for tweeners and young adults so studios started adding more adult humor and made their movies PG now and sales went through the roof

All Pixar movies are PG now
