My wife really wants to see this. I think I remember the original one, but it is far from holding a special place in my heart.

RT is sitting at 87%, and I have no idea what this movie is even about TBH.

Anyone else looking forward to this one?

I kind of am, but the original Pete's Dragon was one of the first movies we owned on VHS back in the early 80's. That was back when VHS was still a new thing and movies were really expensive to buy, so it was a pretty big deal to have it. We watched it all the time.

Haven't watched it in years, but as I recall kid is an orphan that everyone always picks on, even adults. A dragon becomes his best friend and protector, and people try to steal the dragon from him.

My kids want to see it. The trailer looks good. I've taken them to a bunch of kids movies this summer and every single week my daughter asks when we can go see it.

Hmmm. I thought the dragon was imaginary. Shows you how much I remember. My wife was sort of like you. Said she used to watch it over and over and over again when she was little.

I don't think I'll be able to overcome my disappointment at a lack of Dr Terminus enough to see this as anything other than a possible rental.

I know that I've seen this movie more than once, but I am honestly drawing blanks trying to remember anything about it. I can vaguely remember a cave by the ocean, maybe?

Now that you say that, I think you're right. He was the only one that could see the dragon, and that's why everyone picked on him. It's probably been 30 years since I've seen it.

We watched the original this past week.

The doctor is fricking hilarious even after all these years.

Is he the one who isn't in the remake?

Things are coming back to me now. The cave is where Pete made the dragon(was it named Elliott?) hide towards the beginning of the movie. Pete was staying in that lighthouse with teh lady main character.

I may have to watch it again this weekend.

My grandpa could tell me stories of like, having to make his own clothes back in the day...and I'd be floored. Our kids will have the same reaction when we tell them we had to watch the same movie over and over. How times have changed

The CGI of the Dragon in the trailer looks horrible? Did they use the same company that did Suicide Squad?

Probably not. Based on the trailers I've seen it looks like they turned his character into a hunter played by Karl Urban. This appears to be way more serious in tone.

For sure. My kids still can't comprehend having just one TV in the house and fighting over the weekly TV Guide so you could reserve the TV at certain times when there was something on you wanted to watch.

Elliot could turn invisible. For the longest time everyone thought that Pete pretending to have a friend named Elliot.
