Where the frick are you people?
Last night's episode was full of win for everyone but poor Harold.
Love the bounty hunter chick. She should make another appearance at some point.
Con artist lady growing on me - and she's now (don't want to spoilers).
Big guy gonna get some.
Root..... oh, Root. You are still a bit of a sociopath.

I DVRed it last night (I watched Justified instead). I'll watch it tonight when I get off work.

Just caught up with the episode. I thought it was a fun episode. I liked the bounty hunter chick. And yeah, Root is pretty awesome...and hot. But I'm a little confused about her feelings for Harold. Does she see him as a really close friend that she couldn't stand to lose, or does she have romantic feelings for him like she did for Shaw?
I don't trust the ginger chick at all. She knows/suspects too much about Reese not to report him seeing that she is a police shrink. She is way too willing to over look that.
And I doubt that Root destroyed Harold's device. I bet she wants to try and use it herself, thus only risking her own life. At least I hope that is the case, because destroying their only real weapon against Samaritan would be pretty dumb considering what is at stake.

Yeah I thought they were really telegraphing that Root intended to use the device. Great episode. I am happy that crazy Root is coming back from being neutered. Plan A: kill Harold's love interest and drug him, for his own good. Only when that didn't work was plan B instituted: sabotage their relationship.
Two interesting points about her plan: she defied the machine, which I don't remember her doing before. And the machine was ok with sacrificing Harold it seems.

The only other time she wanted to defy to machine was to look for Shaw.
And I'm guessing the machine liked Harold's chances with pulling it off without getting killed. We've seen how meticulous the machine is about running the odds of success. I'm guessing that if it thought Harold's chances weren't good, it would have told Root to intervene. I think that just shows how unwilling Root was for Harold to risk his life no matter how small that risk was. She had to know that the machine knew his chances were probably pretty good that he'd make it.

That's possible. It's also possible that Harold's chances didn't look good, but a reasonable chance of obtaining Samaritan code was worth the poor odds of Harold surviving. I'm not sure what decision the machine makes there. We know what Root decided.

The machine knew Harold would die and still told Root not to do what she did.
Did I miss where it was stated in the episode that the machine knew Harold would die? I have a really hard time buying that the machine would willing use the person it sees as its father as a pawn.
The whole reason that the machine is at such a huge disadvantage against Samaritan is because of the machine's reluctance to risk human life.

hey crashing this thread quickly as a non watcher bc the title caught my eye. it's in the 4th season already?? seems like this show just started.
the wife and i watch (and enjoy them for what they are) a couple of formulaic crime series (criminal minds, elementary, we bailed on all the CSI's a while back).
is this a worthwhile show? seems like something we could pick up in the summer.

Definitely worth picking up. It starts out as kind of a crime series type show, but it evolves has the seasons progress. Season and series long story arcs get established. It is definitely a worthwhile watch.

I would highly recommend it. Season 1 is OK.... picks up BIG TIME and is fantastic from S2 on.
SPOILERS BELOW
OK... Are we not going to even TALK about the fact that the machine called the black con artist chick?!?

That was definitely a cool twist. John was definitely thrown for a loop by it.
So do you agree with the others that the machine thought Harold would die, but was willing to sacrifice him anyways?

I don't think it thought it was likely... I think it fell within acceptable risk for the machine (which was also what happened with Shaw).
This was definitely Root deciding it was unacceptable. Unfortunately - She was saving Harold because she thinks of him as God, not a person. FWIW - I don't think it's a romantic thing. I do think she thinks she friends with Harold... but as a deity and not a human being.

Root said he would. Root's info came from "her".
I thought she said that her info came from her own surveillance. That is why she said that Harold "filled in the gaps" for her on his plans, and why she had to ransack his office. That is also why the other lady's number popped up as soon as Root saw Harold sit down with her. Harold also asked Root if the machine gave her the order to kill the lady, and she said no, that the machine actually told her not to interfere.

Yeah, I know that Harold's plan was his own. But once the machine figured out what he was doing, and figured out what Root would eventually do, it chose to tell Root not to intervene. That is why I think that the machine thought there was a good chance that Harold's plan wouldn't get him killed.
Keep in mind that Root no longer has the faith in the machine that she use to. She blames the machine for Shaw's disappearance/possible death and not letting the others search for her. She obviously didn't trust the machine enough to not do what it told her to do, probably because she figured the machine was willing to sacrifice Harold like it was Shaw (in her mind).

I don't know if she thinks of him as a god. She thinks of the machine as a god (one that she is now losing faith in), and him as the "father" of the god. So yeah, she does put him up on a pedestal for being the man that created god. But I also think she still sees him as a man.
But she definitely views Harold differently than she does John and Fusco. I just can't put my finger on what her feelings for him are. But there seems to be a tighter emotional bond that she has for Harold other than just the man who created her god. Maybe she views him as kind of a father figure for her also? But whatever her view of him, she can't stand the thought of him dying.
quote:Some, sure. Harold's death, no. She has no way of knowing that kind of thing on her own.

That's the whole reason I came to this thread. I wonder if she'll become part of the team at some point. Seems like the machine is using her for something.
