I was only 5, but definitely impacted me. Can still remember driving to the theater and waiting in line, too.

No, it's true. A lot of people thought it was just a ploy by Vader, and they weren't sure that he was Luke's father until Jedi.

And the dialogue was kind of stupid in many places. You don't need to get all emotional about it.

I was in the "Vader is lying" camp. My friends and I were in total shock and didn't believe it could be true.

I was more pissed that the movie ended before they got Han. Couldn't believe the movie ended the way it did.

It was a shock, I figured it out 5 seconds before Vader gave the line but it was an awesome moment. And there was a gasp from the audience. The flying scenes over the snow planet to open the movie were great on a big screen as well. I'd have to say it was my GOAT movie theater experience.

I remember me and my best friend waiting in line all day at the Bon Marche Twin. Was a stand alone theatre behind Bon Marche Mall. Two screen back by where you could enter to hit McDonalds.

Total shock. Times for kids were simple back then. You rode your bike everywhere, you never went inside during the summer daytime and you were out the house by 8am and not back before 5pm. Boys and girls alike played in packs and the biggest "story" would be what new flavor the 7-11 slurpee machine would have that week....

so yeah had no clue and I just remember every kid freaking the frick out about it. Stunned would be a solid word.

I was only a kid when they re-released them and my mom was excited to get to show them to me on the big screen. I had no idea it was coming and how fun that a whole new generation of youth got to re-live the originals in theaters. Star Wars wasn't super popular to youngsters at the time. Power Rangers etc ruled the yard then Wrestling came. It wasn't talked about at school. Was just a family thing it felt like.

That moment can't really be duplicated again in a movie theater. It was awesome as a kid but it was controversial in the sense that you didn't really know if Vader was telling the truth or just manipulating luke. It wasn't until Jedi that you really knew for sure.

Ah
I remember that day!
My mom was taking me and my sister to see empire. While in line my older sister saw some friends and she went with them to see airplane.
I was 8. Had no idea.
I do remember people talking about revenge of the Jedi, before return came out.

I had no idea. Lucas had allowed a rumor to leak that Obi Wan Kenobi was Luke's father as a smokescreen for the actual reveal. I was just a kid though, so I wasn't even aware of that

You knew way more about it than I did. It wasn't that big a deal for me. I saw Star Wars and liked it, so I wanted to see what was just a sequel to me. I was in college then and had way more to do than keep up with movies, especially fantasy ones.

There weren't as many grown men that kept up with that kind of stuff as there are now. No porn either unless you went to a XXX bookstore.
