I figured this HAD to be coming, especially for older movies. There's no reason at this point in time and technology, that studios/companies shouldn't have their movies available to the masses for cheap/free, even if it's only selected portions of their catalogs.

I was actually talking to my brother about this the other day. There's nowhere to go if you want those movies that aren't considered great by lots of folks, haven't been made in the last 10 years, or they arent considered all-time Classics.
So basically those movies that weren't all that popular but you still liked, but they arent new enough to be on netflix/redbox etc.

i've been running into this lately, can't find some movies to even rent on amazon, kind of ticks me off. Is the cost of carrying movies digitally too much to upload everything?

Here is the compete list with my recommendations below:
Horror
The Colossus of New York -- low budget but stylish
Drama
Dark City -- an okay noir starring a young Charlton Heston
King Creole -- not quite Elvis's best film (that would be Jailhouse Rock), but he gives a solid performance -- even cos-star Walter Matthau agreed -- and there are some great location shots of New Orleans c. 1957
The Man in the Vault -- a cult noir
The Strange Love of Martha Ivers -- classic noir with Barbara Stanwyck and Kirk Douglas
Elephant Walk -- not bad soaper with an impressive climax of stampeding elephants
Action Adventure
Seven Men From Now -- great Budd Boetticher western with Randolph Scott and Lee Marvin
Comedy
Come Blow Your Horn -- Neil Simon's first big success, starring Frank Sinatra
Casanova's Big Night - Funny Bob Hope vehicle with a memorable "breaking the fourth wall" ending
Miracle of Morgan's Creek -- somewhat overrated IMHO, but all Preston Sturges movies are worth seeing
Artists and Models -- one of the better Dean Martin-Jerry Lewis films, directed by Frank Tashlin
The Devil and Miss Jones -- excellent romantic comedy written by Norman Krasna (NOT the pron film -- that's The Devil In Miss Jones)
On the Double -- Danny Kaye

Umm, the movies you just described are the EXACT movies all over Netflix.

Saw these in the '80s. Enjoyed Casanova's Big Night would watch again. I have to check if The Lemon Drop Kid is a Paramount production.
Wished some studios would do the same with TV series that are not on DVD.

The best way to combat piracy is to stream the older content for free. I don't mind watching some commercials if it's free. Let them get their money through advertising.
They also need to lower the rental prices for brand new content. The Red Box is pretty cool, but it would be nice if we had digital rentals for $1.

Also digital rentals shouldn't be for just 24 hours.
