Dennis Quaid stars. Anyone like this movie?
It sucked in the theaters, only netting $20mil.

I liked it, but I'll watch just about anything Ben Foster does.

Cool little twist at the end.

I thought it was solid. It won't go down as a great, but I was entertained. The concept was cool enough. It was worth the time to watch.

My question after just finishing is this..
Were the mutated humans just a figment of their imagination?

No, they were the mutated descendants of the crew that Dennis Quaid had woken up, tortured, and pitted against each other hundreds of years before. There are some explanations to this stuff in the faq section of IMDB.
For Example:
For Example:
quote:
Bower wonders whether they might have been specimens that escaped from the embryonic chamber holding livestock and wildlife re-populations to be released when they reach Tanis, but German biologist Nadia (Antje Traue) says that would be impossible. He then wonders whether something might have boarded the Elysium while in flight, but Nadia thinks that the creatures may have been with them all along. And she is right. As the movie progresses, it is learned that eight years into the mission, crew member Cpl Gallo (Cam Gigandet) succumbed to pandorum, killed his co-pilots, and then began screwing with the systems, waking up various passengers to either kill them or exile those who had 'behaved' into the cargo hold to to play his game, which involved them hanging each other from ropes and feeding on their own. Over the course of 923 years, the descendants of the cannibals adapted to the conditions on the ship becoming troglofaunal (cave-dwelling) and continuing Gallo's game as tradition.

In the final scenes on the bridge, Bower shoots out a vent, believing he's seeing a mutated human breaking onto the bridge; but immediately realizes it was a figment of his imagination after a piece ricochets and cracks the glass canopy.

I found it randomly one night when I was in the mood for some scifi. Had never heard of it before, but liked it a lot.
Been a while since I watched, but I think they explained that some sort of reactor issue had caused the mutations and adaptations to their environment.

I think it was some mcguffin that was supposed to be used to help them adapt to the conditions on the new planet

On the bridge at the end Bower was hallucinating. In the cargo though was real.

Bower was undergoing the effects of "pandorum" at the end. Unlike Dennis Quaids character, he recognizes it as such.
