I feel sorry for people who only gave BB one season. It was a 7 episode pilot season that Gilligan was shopping around to networks and was very raw. It had zero budget and funding.

Season 2 vaulted it to another level once AMC picked it up.

Meta critic is a 67%

For the record I liked it, but it's laughable to say it's better than BB. It's just fresh in your mind

So a site that adds up positive and negative critic reviews is retarded?

It is retarded in the way people interpret the score however

I don't jerk off to BB like most do but it was a great show. This show isn't even in the same city, let alone parking lot as BB. And that's just season 1 v season 1 even! Not even close!

Have you looked at the reviews? It's like they're all or nothing with a few in between. Some critics, you can really tell, are just making shite up to criticize, one saying that Bateman and Linney are the worst parts of the show. That's ridiculous. Some are simply bored with the genre or the antihero trope which has zero basis in the story or characters. One actually seems to be upset that Bateman is the star, producer and even director of an episode. It's sad really.

That's what I mean. 62% means nothing. It's not a rating of the show.

Not even close. Just finished it. It was pretty good, but not great. I'd keep watching new seasons but it would be nowhere near my top 10. And I love Jason Bateman - been watching him since " It's Your Move" and I'll watch anything he is in.
Breaking Bad was about Walt trying to outsmart one of the GOAT villains of al time, and succeeding.
Ozark is about Bateman trying to outsmart a teenaged girl who is trailer trash, and usually losing.
No comparison.

Hell of a hot take there. Did you stop watching after the 3rd episode?

Man I was ready to write this thread off as a troll but I don't know that I've seen you troll before so I clicked.

You know what? Im a huge BB fan but I have to admit that if you're comparing season 1 of each show, you're not wrong. I do enjoy the hell out of more of the Ozark characters right off the bat.

But as a whole, Ozark doesn't come close to BB for me. That's not a fair comparison for Ozark yet though. Let them get some more seasons under their belt.

On a side note, Ozark was completely different from what the trailer made it out to be (or at least the trailer I saw). They made it look like he defrauds the drug dealers and goes on the run, while they try to hunt him down. The actual plot was far more interesting than what I was expecting.

Loved this first season of Ozark - never really liked Breaking Bad at all - while I could appreciate the acting, writing etc. I just didn't get into into because none of the characters where likeable IMO. I didn't have anybody to root for.

The 2nd season of Ozark has the potential to be awesome. Marty running interference between the Mexicans and the Rednecks at the casino.
I imagine Ruth's Dad will be out of jail and that could be interesting.
Love the character of Ruth.
The only flaw is Wendy - Laura Linney isn't the best fit for the role. It's not a horrible miscast - Just not he best.

I don't know if I'm ready say that after one season, but it's damn good for sure.
