First thing that stands out... Man I forget the lack of technology, haha. Typewriter in the first episode?
It's crazy how complex the first two episodes compared to most shows, the comparisons to a novel on screen are apt. Barksdale being invisible, the dealers, bubbles the city politics. They throw damn near 6 major threads at you in barely an hour and a half. Just nuts.

Fair point. But I doubt you can even do police work without a computer anymore.
Also, I'm guessing we'll draw some comparisons to Baltimore in the present day. I mean didn't David Simon comment on all that stuff last year?

i recently watched the first episode of sopranos again, and the first episode of the wire. its weird how dated sopranos felt, almost to the point of being cheesy, but the wire didnt.

i re-watch teh wire (or at least through season 3 before it falls off) every 18 months or so

Watched the first two episodes last night. I'm unsure on the show. I can see it being good just not sure it's the type of show I'll get very invested into. Personally I would rather the show focus on the thugs than the police. The McNulty side is pretty Meh.

Without spoiling things - this show focuses on all sides better than any other I've seen. But it does so in a methodical way.
Setting aside the very polarizing Season 2 - you get:
Season 1 - BPD "street" level and Barksdale organization
Season 3 - adding Baltimore City politics on the "legit" side, and introducing a new drug organization to compete with Barksdale
Season 4 - Baltimore public schools and efforts by the Baltimore drug dealers to cooperate rather than directly compete
Season 5 - Baltimore news organization/journalists, as well and continued strife among the various drug organizations.
In addition - you get a gradual look upwards through the various organizations, particularly the upper echelon of the BPD as things progress.
Without doing an in-depth analysis - and depending on how you count Omar, the corner kids and some of the politicians - the full run of the show, including the corrupt Union organizations, is approximately 40% on the "thug" side - just pulling numbers from my 4th point of contact.

landsman already shinin
daniels "bowed up" walk is so much more pronounced this season than any other season, too
i feel bad for daniels with his count of a wife already showing her colors

I like season 2. I just think that a lot more precaution would have been taken in the real world when it comes to an informant of that caliber coming forward.
