I wonder how much it would have to make for Fox to officially greenlight the already announced sequel?
it's initial production budget was only $122m which isn't that high for a tent pole type flick.
of course, that number probably doesn't account for the reshoots and most certainly won't include the (seemingly light) advertising budget.
for comparisons sake
Fantastic Four - $330m take on $100m budget
Fantastic Four 2 - $289m on $130m
X-Men - $296m on $75m
X-Men 2 - $407 on $110m
X-Men 3 - $459m on $210m
Origins Wolverine - $373m on $150m
First Class - $353m on $160m
The Wolverine - $414m on $120m
X-Men DOFP - $748m on $200m

Since Fox has the release films every so often to keep the rights, it isnt surprising they have already announced the sequel. I dont think this movie needs to turn a large profit for the sequel to get greenlit, I think it just needs to avoid flopping.

I think that their best bet would be to do a quick X-Men crossover with a new FF cast. No (or very little) origin story. Thing vs Colossus, Torch vs Ice Man, etc. No Doom, go with Super-Skrull or someone like that. Get some good will going with the franchise.

Sure, just trying to figure out what the base amount of $$$ it needs to make before they pack it in and sell the rights back to Marvel.
Breaking even will probably require $250m or so worldwide. That should be doable so long as the word of mouth isn't complete shite. Getting to a decent profit level will probably be $320ish or so.
The question remains how much do they need to turn to make it worth the effort to make more? The next film will almost assuredly cost more to produce so I'm not too sure a movie that just barely makes it into the black will be enough to justify another film to the bean counters.
Unless they are just that pissed that Disney took Star Wars away from them and are determined to hang onto something they want back I feel like it's going to need to be a hit.
Its not like I've ever seen a groundswell of fans begging for a F4/XMen crossover film. Fox has done absolutely nothing to set up a shared universe in its X films so its not like there will be several years of people anticipating an eventual team up. Hell, as far as I can tell, FF isn't even set in the same time period that the X films are currently in so that creates yet another X franchise continuity issue. Perhaps they just don't understand that The Avengers is more than just mashing together different comic properties.

Keeping a thread on topic isn't a terrible idea.If you want to talk about a hypothetical crossovers, start a thread about it...but this thread is supposed to be about the Fantastic Four film, not a potential X-Men crossover down the line.

The fact that critics won't even be allowed to see this movie until a day or two before it opens tells you how little confidence the studio has in this film. It's not uncommon for an embargo on reviews until right before the movie, but usually the critics have seen it a week or two before it opens. Waiting until the last possible second for even a screening is a very bad sign.

Thanks. Fantastic four was still a top 30 title before the first movie came out back in 05. Since then , Fox has done more damage to the IP's earning potential that they might see this as just a sunk cost and better to wash their hands with it all off the punisher daredevil etc. or smartly begging Marvel Studios to give them the Sony Spiderman deal with the fantastic four and probably X-Men

It really was because she wasn't drunk. The boys have a few drinks after being told they won't be doing the mission. Victor complains that astronaughts are famous when those who built the rockets get no attention. They all decide to use the device without permission. Reed calls Ben to come along because they are childhood friends. No-one seems to think of Sue at all.
So Sue Storm is left behind when the origin happens.

on the return trip, the lab has the bang and she gets her powers then. There also is allegedly a time jump of a year...and it's Ben's brother,while beating him saying "It's Clobberin' Time"
Doom falls into green lava (that was red in the first trailer) lives in the N-Zone for a year.
