I'm gonna miss Ragnar, show won't be the same without him.

The scene where he asked them to hold his hair back.

It didn't happen yet, but they are making it look like it's coming. If anyone read the Historical Spoilers posted in this thread, the directions we appear to be heading do line up with history, which is what you'd expect from the History Channel.

This was a really good episode, non stop action hitting a lot of different fronts. My favorite part was the hair pull

I laughed so hard at that. Pretty mad that it was that beast of a Viking that got killed this episode but I guess it's better than Rollo dying, which is what it looked like in the episode preview.

Ragnar goin' Christian!

LOL at the bishop not wanting to baptize him and him making him do it.

Rollo is beating out. As stated previously, this definitely looks like it is going to line up with history here.

First, I got caught up on this series in just a few days of blasting through the episodes. Vikings is every bit as good as Game of Thrones albeit with a much smaller budget.

quote:

Ragnar goin' Christian!

Athelstan obviously made a lasting impression on Ragnar's life. Ragnar is objective enough about his own religion to recognize that the Christians have a more civilized, more advanced and a more peaceful society. Ragnar simply wants a better future for his people with land to farm and a peaceful co-existence. To his credit, Ragnar knows his dear friend, Athelstan, was murdered and probably knows who did it but the writers have not pursued a vendetta by Ragnar. Ragnar believes he has terminal internal injuries and he merely wants to reunite with his dear friend, Athelstan, in the afterlife. Soon it will be Rollo and Ragnar's son, Bjorn, who will be leading the Vikings. Oh, and I am in love with Lagertha. That scene when Ragnar woke up with a huge smile on his face with Aslaug and Lagertha in bed with him was my favorite scene thus far in the series. This show is fricking epic good. cheers:

I think the French heal him up. It makes sense. They have far superior medicine at this time and it may be a condition of them getting paid off.

Then you could have Ragnar double crossed and turned over to the English next season. No way they let him die from a busted kidney

I can see that, because even though history says he's dying probably before the end of the series, it just doesn't feel like the show is ready for a new lead yet. Although GoT changes leads every season.

Nah.

So they are saying that Aethelstan is the father of Alfred the Great. That's a nice little twist although inaccurate.

If anyone likes historical fiction check out Bernard Cornwell's "The Warrior Chronicles" series.

I hear ya. I do think GoT is they best show on TV currently all things considered including the epic production quality but honestly the juggling of so many character arcs in the books was a let-down at times. For instance, I had almost zero interest in Brienne's arc. I think the liberties that the TV writers have taken has actually made the TV series better than the books to some extent.

Having said that, I think that pound for pound the writers and production team of Vikings has actually done a better job with what they had to work with. And while Vikings also has multiple main characters, I prefer it's more focused approach on a more limited number of settings allowing characters associated with those settings to be developed more fully.

That is Roman Polanski's daughter, Morgane Polanski. Yea, I can't wait; she is smokin' hot.

Correct

Yep, but the world has evolved. Polanski clearly has a genetic based sexual preference for children that he can't help. So the current continuum goes something like this:

heterosexuals, bisexuals, homosexuals, pedophiles, multi-sexuals, transexuals, animalism, etc., etc. each with their own unique genetically justifiable sexual predispositions.

It would seem so. As I alluded to earlier, Ragnar seems pretty practical in that he seeks a better future for his people. His logic, other than just wanting be with Athelstan again, would seem to be that he recognizes that the Christians have a more advanced/civilized society and perhaps they have the right of it in belief in their one god. This is suggested in a number of ways throughout the series. Off the top of my head:
1. Ragnar, after the death of his unborn son, asks why the gods give with one hand and take away with the other.
2. Earl Haraldson asks the Seer if the gods exist and the Seer just chuckles.
3. A group of Vikings including Floki, describe the Norse myth of the creation of earth/the universe and then Floki smiles and asks Athelstan how he thinks it was created. At which point Athelstan has a humorous and perplexed look on his face.
4. And even Floki, questions the gods after the devastating defeat of the Vikings against Paris saying that he did everything possible to secure victory.

Yea, especially a Christian King.

Oh, and when Ragnar was walking down the aisle to meet King Aelle, there was a quick camera allusion as Ragnar clearly recognized the quality of the carpet he was walking on in King Aelle's hall. Ragnar also specifically mentioned to his followers that he want to meet with King Aelle to see how he lived.
