The action was intense. The plot was basic yet solid. The acting was above average. There were a couple characters who could have been developed better than they were, though. All in all, it was a good popcorn flick. I recommend it if you like action films and the unlikely hero.

I would like to say thank you to my AMC Stubs card for another free movie!

I second that. Not overly complex or anything so it won't capture the intellectual types. It's a basic meat and bones thriller and I thought it was very good. Had me on edge through most of the movie.

Is it better than Hotel Rwanda?

Just watched it. Best action movie I've seen in awhile. Once it got going, which was pretty early, the suspense didn't let up for a moment until the end. 1hr 45 min that went by in no time. I thought it did a very good job of getting you invested in the characters and providing moments that went against typical Hollywood action tropes without going too far the other way.

Owen Wilson did an excellent job in this, I must say. He played the average family man forced into kicking arse to save his family roll very well... As did Lake Bell.

Was it perfect? No. Especially the reason behind why the mayhem is happening in the first place. But if you can get passed why these people are being hunted and just put yourself into their place, it's nerve-wracking as all hell.

What's the deal with the way the people in the random unnamed Asian nation are portrayed?

I seem to be seeing a lot of reviews that call this movie xenophobic and borderline racist.

Is it just a case of reviewers being overly sensitive or is there some truth to that critique?

Everything is racist now. Movie about an Asian nation going crazy? If the bad guys are Asian, that's racist.
If the bad guys are white, that's white washing, still racist

Well it depends on how everything is portrayed.

If they portray the Asians as completely mindless murdering thugs w/o a single one having any redeeming qualities while every single white character is a completely innocent and good person then I can see how it could come off as crass and a bit bigoted.

This one actually looks really good to me. Not sure if I'll see it in theaters, but I definitely will watch it at some point. Seems like it would be pretty intense.

I'm Asian and didn't see any issue. But I am not that easily offended either
