A week or so a go a few of us were posting in thread about an announcement the brass at Nickelodeon made about wanting to mainstream it's 90s entertainment again. They had mentioned anything from a movie that intertwined all the 90s nicktoons to possible reboots and continuations of them. Well apparently it was announced by Nick over the weekend that this new venture will be called "The Splat" MTV says it's going to be a channel dedicated to nothing but 90s programming and other articles I've read have suggested it may be an online network or just another 90s programming block. It had its own YouTube channel launch that's showing snippets of some of the old shows over the weekend. Anyways, here's a link to the
MTV article and the trailer that premiered on YouTube.

You can't do that on television.

As I posted in the last nick thread:

quote:

I agree with this, replace nicktoons, teen nick or nick jr with Nick Classics.

Nicktoons is a filler station with reruns of modern nick cartoons, even some that haven't aired on nickelodeon, still getting crushed by Cartoon Network.

Nick Jr. is a huge fail after debuting the "NickMom" block at night, ratings have plummeted and they are getting slaughtered by Disney Jr.

TeenNick's main draw was Degrassi, which they cancelled and is now on Netflix... they now have no original content, and viewership is the worst of all the nick channels. This would make the most sense to replace.

Kids nowadays are turning to netflix and other streaming services to get their favorite TV shows. Who still watches TV? Adults, primarily those who grew up with classic nick. Making a channel of all classic nick programming would be HUGELY popular, and definitely bring in more revenue than any of the three networks mentioned above.

Now to see which channel they replace it with...

The unfortunate thing is in about 5 years they will change it from "exclusive 90's Nicktoons" to "Early 2000's" and it will just keep moving old Nick cartoons to it much like Boomerang did. Boomerang was awesome when it first came out because it was nothing but Looney Toons, The Flintstones and The Jetsons. Now you have bullshite shows like Ben 10 and Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends on there instead because it's considered "old"

My thoughts exactly. But damn it it'll be fun while it last

Now if we could just get 24 hour Saturday Morning Cartoons channel complete with a an old school commercial vault.

They better show episodes of shows not yet available on dvd like Salute Your Shorts. If it's strictly Nicktoons I'll pass. I can watch Are You Afraid of the Dark and all of the cartoons already.

OH BBY YES.

Angry Beavers all day.

I don't think I saw The Wild Thornberrys though...that's gonna make me sad. Donnie is gold.

Needs Rocket Power too.

That's what happened with Nick at Nite. Use to play shows from the 50s and it now has Full House and Friends.

They need to throw in 80s shows too. If they had shite like YCDTOTV, Today's Special, Pinwheel, etc. that would be fantastic for kids these days. Or even older show reruns that they played back then.

Double Dare, Wild N Crazy Kids, Salute Your Shorts, Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats, Speed Buggy, Captain Caveman (and son, sometimes), Wacky Races, Scooby Doo, the Smurfs, Jabberjaw, the Snorks, Wonder Twins, Legends of the Hidden Temple, The Brady Bunch, the Flintstones, etc.

Jesus, Nickelodeon used to play some bad fricking arse shows.

I still cant understand why they took Hey Arnold off Netflix. To me, Netflix is the perfect outlet for old 90s shows like that.
