Tell me what I can expect.

I've only watched the first two episodes, and I think I'll like it eventually...however, I feel very overwhelmed by the amount of information that is dished out so quickly. Very hard to get a grip on all of these characters and plot.

Should I expect more of the same? Is it going to be a plethora of plot lines amongst all of these characters?

I came into this thing with no understanding of what the show was about...I only went in with very high expectation - based off of what everyone says.

Read all the books first. Then watch the show as the most elaborate fan fiction/adaptation ever made.

Trust me. You'll be a lot happier and more informed.

I think I can help. I just started a week or so ago. Now, I'm on Season 2, episode 7.

I thought it was pretty slow to start. I honestly didn't care to keep going after episode 1. Stick with it. The "landscape" of the show changes quickly and often. It really does get a lot better, and I am now really enjoying the show.

ETA: Sometimes if a name sounds unfamiliar I will do a quick Google search and then have an "ah" moment. I don't think it's too bad. Everything starts coming together.

Well...damn. Shows exactly how little I know about this show. I had no idea there were books.

Ok...Glad I'm not alone.

Being that you started a week ago, and already that far...definitely gives me more motivation to continue watching.

Thanks.

Yeah, I did two things that helped me a lot.

I put on closed captioning so I wouldn't get confused with names that sounded the same. Then, if I got confused, I would do a quick google search and then I would know what was going on, who the players are, etc.

ETA: I didn't know it was a book series either, so don't feel bad about now knowing so much about the show. I didn't know shite about it when I started.

I just recently started watching it as well. I'm almost through season 2, and the characters and plot lines didn't really click until midway through the 2nd season. The first season was pretty confusing at times.

I still don't have the urge to binge more than 2 episodes at a time, but I enjoy the show. The Jon Snow angle right now is a complete bore and I unfortunately tune out on his scenes and that storyline.

And to be honest...I'm not going to read the books anyhow. I have reading comprehension level of a 5th Grader. I'll just stick to watching the show and enjoying the tits.

Prepare thy anus. But really, you'll pick up their names after a few episodes. The show covers several different story lines at once as well. It's a great show. Enjoy it

The show really did a poor job of giving the background of where the "state" of Westeros is at when the show starts. You really need to read up on Robert's Rebellion to find out how Robert Baratheon came into power. Here is a link where you can read up on Robert's Rebellion: LINK

Be very careful when navigating on that site so that you don't stumble on spoilers since that is a wiki site. If you stay on that page, and don't click any of the links, you should be fine. As a matter of a fact, be very careful when looking or reading anything on the internet because you will get hit with spoilers.

The history of Robert's Rebellion will help explain the current dynamics of the politics in Westeros. They will still keep introducing a ton of characters as the show progresses, but it gets easier to keep up with them all. One trick is to watch it with the closed captioning on so that you can see the names of the characters.

Again, be careful of spoiler, and stick with the show. It only gets better as the seasons progress.

ETA: And if I were you, I would add a no spoilers tag to the thread title. Or better yet, never look on this board or any other internet site until you have finished the last season.

Be very careful doing Google searches, for the Internet is dark and full of Spoilers.

Get used to it. Nothing exciting ever happens around that Jon Snow guy.
