The reluctance in his tone in all the trailers hits the nail on the head IMO.

I've said this before, the scene in Superman with the helicopter and the Daily Planet when we first see him, while Iconic, is highly unrealistic. "Oh look, we were about to be crushed by a chopper falling off a building, but a dude in a red cape just flew up and caught it. Everyone cheer!"

One thing I respect about Christopher Nolan is that he found a way to make Batman more than a dude in a batsuit. Every other iteration of it, including Tim Burtons movies (which I love) ultimately results in Batman being a dude dressed up like a bat.

Here, it seems we will have that influence in the direction of Man Of Steel. If you think about it, Jor-El gave his son an epic charge: be their protector. Here is an alien with God-like powers that has charged himself with protecting his adopted planet. People will be afraid. Governments will hate him. Nefarious characters will try to use him. Once he is accepted, how long before people rely on him too much? Can Superman be everywhere at once? How long before they resent him? How does he choose between his own life and his charge?

Epic questions that have never really been explored with the character. I can't wait to see what they've done.

I've always been a Superman nay-sayer. Not because of the character because let's face it, Superman is iconic, but that no writer has really done the character justice. It looks like that may have changed and honetly I can't wait. This looks amazing and the casting looks spot on as well. Yes even Costner.

All that. Now, as sure as the sun rises you can predict the complaints about "darkening" Superman...but is addressing the things you mentioned really darkening the story? I don't think so...maybe deepening it. But there will be complaints...

As for me, I can't wait. I was the right age to be a kid and going to see the Reeves Superman movies which I loved at the time. I re-watched I and II with my sons a few weeks ago, and other than Reeves the movies fall flat for me now. I think that might be why I'm anticipating this version so much.

So what do they want? More of the same?

Sam Raimi did that. You got Superman Returns. That went over really well.

Can't wait.

Also, one step closer to a World's Finest. Leave the Avengers to the kids, I'll take a dark Batman / Superman movie any day.

*Batman will need to be rebooted in a less realistic universe.

Jor El, warned him of this in the first movie...

Jor-El: You are revealed to the world. Very well, so be it. But you must still retain your secret identity.
Superman: But why?
Jor-El: The reasons are two. First, you cannot serve humanity twenty-eight hours a day.
Superman: Twenty-four.
Jor-El: Or twenty-four, as it is in Earth time. Your help would be called for endlessly, even for those problems which human beings could solve themselves. It is their habit to abuse their resources in such a way.
Superman: And, second?
Jor-El: Second, your enemies will discover that the only way to hurt you, will be by hurting the people you care for.
Superman: Thank you, Father.
Jor-El: Lastly... Do not punish yourself for your feelings of vanity. Simply learn to control them. It is an affliction common to all, even on Krypton. Our destruction could have been avoided had it not been for the vanity of some who considered us indestructible. Were it not for vanity, why... at this very moment...

My biggest issue with that movie, other than some horrible casting and much of the story, was that Bryan Singer felt the need to do a Richard Donner homage with it, rather than just doing a new version that picked up sort of where that movie left off. The fact that they made Brandon Routh basically do a Christopher reeves impersonation was just too much.

I'm glad they've scrapped all that and are really starting from scratch.

Sorry, the dark knight is untouchable as a superhero movie. Crime thriller + batman = pure fictional awesomeness

Dark Knight Rises ruined it. I know all the Batman fan-boys want it to be awesome but it just wasn't.

I loved DKR, wasn't on the same level as TDK but so what.

My point was that the series as a whole gets put on this pedestal that it can't be out done. Not saying Man of Steel series will be better but just wait and see before making the claim that it can't be.

Anyone else notice that Zod and his cronies are actually in chains when he shouts, "I will find him!"

It's obvious from the trailer what happens to krypton in this universe
Actually, if you know the story and if what the trailer shows me is what I think happens, what happens to Krypton is the same origin story as Superman originally had.

SPOILERS

1. General Zod and his crew try to overthrow the Kryptonian government.

- That is seen at the beginning of the trailer. The shots of a battle are more than likely what that is.

2. General Zod and his crew are defeated, captured, and locked in the Phantom Zone.

- They show a scene of Zod and the other people chained up.

3. Krypton is destroyed shortly after they are sent to the Phantom Zone.

- There is nothing in the trailer that shows this happening, but it seems as if everything up to that point is pretty much the same.

I expect Krypton's story to be pretty much the same as its always been.

Also, I went through IMDb to check out the cast a crew and see who we have in this film. Here are a few of the other villains (I'm also pretty sure they don't have everyone on there):

Faora (aka Ursa) played by Antje Traue. Faora is Zod's wife. I only know her from Pandorum. She played Nadia.

Nadira played by Apollonia Vanova. Nadira is apparently a Kryptonian spy who was sent to Earth with another Kryptonian, Az-Rel, who isn't listed as a character in this movie. I recognized her from the beginning of The Watchmen. She is the female hero who is a lesbian and gets killed in her bed, if I'm not mistaken.

They don't list any other villains from the Superman universe. I don't know if Non will be in this one, but there are male characters behind Zod in the trailer, so there will likely be other villains.

Also, there is a weird addition to the list of characters. Kelor played by Rondel Reynoldson. Kelor is a robot who serves the "house of El," Superman's family. Not sure what to make of that.

I'm taking IMDB's cast list with a grain of salt though.

Just a little info for you guys.

Nice spoiler.

I get that part. He was in chains when he said it though, and that is what I'm basing my prediction off of.

Zod is just promising to get his revenge on Jor-El's son, maybe.
