Maybe its because the original was my favorite Disney movie as a kid, but from that trailer, I hate all the voices. They just don't match for me.

And I'm sure they are not supposed to match, but Bill Murray as Baloo seems like its going to be Bill Murray voice acting as Baloo instead of that is the voice of Baloo....if that makes any sense at all.

And people hate on me for saying that that is the downfall of the animated Disney movies and animated movies in general...it all started with Lion King. When you got celebrities to be the voices because that gets people in. And the celebrities aren't really voice actors.

I know what you mean. I love the jungle book story so much that it doesn't matter that much to me though

Aladdin had Robin Williams

And I don't know how big a star Kurt Russell was at the time, but Fox & the Hound had him and Mickey Rooney

Very interesting choice of Scarlet Johannson as Kaa.

Right. And the original Jungle Book had Louis Prima. I had been under the impression that getting celebrity voices was not a new practice. I guess I can see a critical mass argument, though.

No, but they started getting saturated by stars after success of Lion King.

I've been in the minority on this board, but I think it's an awful, awful choice.

Johannson as Kaa is the least concerning to me.

I can see why they went with a female for the voice of Kaa, instead of hypnotizing Mowgli, Kaa is more like a siren of sorts

Even more than Murray as Baloo, having Walken replace Prima just doesn't work. He was literally perfect for the role.

As far as the actual movie crafting is concerned, it really is amazing what CGI can do. In that trailer it was probably as beautiful a landscape production, as any movie I've ever seen. It really does look incredible. Baloo, for a character example, looked fantastic, and you could tell they weren't 100% done with him. Especially in that last scene in the cave.

Hard to beat those classic voices. You had major players from British film, jazz, and animation.

I think it looks great too. I do wish they'd been ambitious and tried to do it with no voice work. It might not have worked but it'd be the greatest example of show don't tell that we've seen in a long time.

I'm not pumped about Scarlet either, but the rest of it looks pretty good. It's cool that it's "live action", but they kinda made it look like the cartoon (biggest example is like when Mowgli is swinging from branches...it's sort of jerky like the cartoon was).

And I hate overly CGI'd movies, but for some reason this one looks decent. Of course, that may be the nostalgia in me talking though.

JB was never my favorite Disney movie, but for some reason I'm pretty pumped about this one.

The Rescuers, 1977, featured Bob Newhart, Eva Gabor, and Geraldine Paige.

I thought it was cool that they used the black bars to create a faux 3D effect. It reminded me of all the "3D" gifs that have been floating around the internet the last few years that use bars to break the image into thirds.

I pretty much agree with your premise, but think you picked a poor example to back it up. RW as the genie is one of the most spot on, totally nailed it animated character voices I can imagine.
