What did ya'll think of the first two seasons? I REALLY liked them both, and I'm pretty positive if it continues to be this good it will end up being better than The Wire (IHMO, of course)

thoughts? And does anyone know what the hold up for season 3 is?

by far my favorite character:

Probably because I remember people on this board hating it.

I liked what I saw of the first season, never finished it or caught up though.

I couldn't get through season 1. Almost got there. Think there was one episode left.

You are poking a hornet's nest with a statement like this.

I really enjoy the show. But most opinions on this board I have read weren't too positive. Things do move very slowly on this show.

I agree.... I think it helps to watch The Wire, The Corner, Generation Kill first as like a primer to get used to David simon's work. I could barely keep my eyes open the first season of the wire, because I wasn't used to how he worksd

I liked season one...sort of. I started watching season two, got two episodes in, realized I was just trying to get thru it, and not enjoying. Haven't watched it since. I kind of root for it because it's probably the most accurate depiction of N.O. we'll ever get, but the show's just not for me.

I don't hate it or think it's a bad show. It's just entirely too boring for me.

I really like the show, but I wouldn't put anywhere in the class of The Wire.

It is a little slow at times, but I think the characters and the acting is top notch. I have a feeling that this will be the last season.

Harley was a great character on the show. I hated it when he was killed. My favorite character is Antoine Batiste.

yeah I'm like the only person in my group of friends that would say it is. maybe it's just a personal thing, IDK.

I really got hooked w/ the end of the John Goodman story arc. that was amazing, really.

One of my best friends reminded me of John Goodman's character (but about 30 years younger...). He even tried to commit suicide as well.

I love the show. The first season was better, imo than the second, but they were both great.

I watched season 1 and although it was slow, I looked past that and kept watching. When season 2 started, I couldn't make it past the first 2 or 3 episodes. It just moves too slow and just lacks something I can't really put my finger on.

yeah I've heard that from a lot of people. there's a grantland article about how it has all the right ingredients but it just doesn't quite add up to brilliance like simon's other stuff. I don't agree, but I can see why people think that

Well there are only about 3 people (including myself) on this board who actually like and watch it week to week and the third season doesn't start until the Fall.

It's not flawless but the depiction of New Orleans culture is breathtaking and the stories and characters feel genuine even if they tend to meander without any real dramatic purpose, which is probably why a lot of people hate the show. I really do not like Janette, the cook's, storyline. It's entirely uninteresting and seems forced to try and show the cuisine side of NOLA culture. But, the rest of the storylines are pretty good. Every time I watch an episode I wish I lived in New Orleans. The show just has such an optimistic tone to it and really respects the city far more than any other film or TV show could ever hope to do.

I just can't see it. The Wire is David Simon's magnum opus and it is as close to perfection as any TV show could get.

I really hated Zaun's character but that are guys like him running around in NOLA so he is pretty authentic.

The only person thats not authentic IMO is the chick bar owner.
