I tried to research all this on my own & even did a thread search here which rendered some useful information but what I really want to know is what the experts here think. I'm open to LG, Sony, & Samsung with preference on Samsung. Also want 55" as smallest & 65" as largest, which means I should likely get a 60". All these measurements would fit my space. I'm buying 2 of them so would like to get the best price possible. What do ya'll think? Is it worth it to get SUHD or just UHD....120Hz vs 240Hz...where is best place to buy, etc...

Samsung and Sony tend to be the best overall imo . Vizio is a great brand if you're trying to save a few bucks

4K can't hurt but there isn't many 4K shows to watch and it will be a while until you can actually watch 4K thru cable services. Only Netflix and Amazon have a few 4K shows

120hz is good enough imo

I bought a 47 in. LG about two years ago and picture crapped out after 18 months. After I did a little research online, I came to find out that this was a common issue with this model. Ultimately, LG did offer to repair the TV even though it was out of warranty. However, this took multiple phone calls and headaches before they offered. I will likely not buy another LG tv.

My smaller Samsung, on the other hand, it has worked like a charm for going on 7 years.

Ultimately, I know everyone can find an issue with any brand. However, going forward, I will likely be going with Samsung. They just put out a quality product in my opinion and most of my friends with their TVs like them as well.

120hz should be fine.

I recently bought a Sony 55" 4K and it has been good so far.

Everyone says 4K content is way off, but DirecTV is already offering movies in 4K (additional equipment and fees required), and it announced in Dec. 2015 that it will launch a live 4K broadcasting service sometime in "early 2016." Netflix and other streamers have 4K content. Netflix makes you pay more for it.

I've not spent more $$ for 4K content yet because regular HD is good enough for me, but I think 4K will take over like HD did in a year or two.

So long 8-track, hello cassettes. What's next?

I'd go with the 240hz, makes a difference in the picture quality. Sony or Samsung would probably be the only two brands I'd consider also.

My biggest piece of advice is to buy it off Amazon if you can. Free shipping and tax-free (depends on the state you live in I guess). If you don't have Prime, just sign up for the trial and cancel it.

Pretty sure there's no true 240hz.
it's either 60hz or 120hz, and you can usually tell by the price.
It is a necessity to get 120hz, then look at the motion rate. My Sony has a 960 motion rate. All that means is it's taking the 120hz true rate and , to put it in dumb terms, computering it to 960. If you watch sports at all, it makes a huge huge huge difference.

I bought a Sony 55" that wasn't 4k b/c i wanted to spend under $1k. It was 3D and i discovered that you cannot stream anything in 3D on this TV through the TV's apps. Netflix and Vudu offer 3D movies and shows, but you have to get a blue ray player that can stream it and is compatible with Netflix and Vudu's 3D streaming app. Kind of a crock of shite considering this isnt' necessary with Samsung, LG and Vizio TV's, only Sony.

Not that 3D matters, but if it's an option, shite on Sony and get your Samsung. Get at least 120hz, look for a higher motion rate, go in the store and look at the actual tv you want and tell them to put sports on it to check it out.

The 4k Sony and the one i ended up getting were right next to each other at Best Buy. Guy put a soccer game on and on the 4k tv the ball looked like a square as it went across the screen. On the TV i got, you could see every detail of the ball as it rolled. There was a huge difference for sports. When he put anything else on, you could easily tell the 4k tv was much more vibrant, but i figured that was only the case b/c they were right next to each other and i wouldn't notice much at home.

If i were picking a tv right now, I'd get a Samsung 4k with 120hz and a very high motion rate, but that ain't cheap usually.

TV's are so fricking cheap now. Funny how people don't know how to use review sites for thousands of reviews, and come here for a couple dozen.

Not as long as you think. Comcast and DirecTV and probably others have been working on the technology for a while now. From what I hear, it wouldn't be surprising if boxes are released by the end of 2016.

You should read up some more. That ain't happening this year, or next year, or the next.

You'll be able to watch more and more 4k over the years through different avenues, but we are a few years away from you watching Monday Night Football in 4k.

Thanks so much to EVERYONE that replied!

Always good advice here. In response to what some have posted... yes, I did plenty of research on the internet, even went to Consumer Reports. The problem is I went crossed-eyed & want "real" advice. I just built a house & bought all of my appliances through advice from the Food & Drink Board. They were wonderful & solid on there! Saved a bunch of money...
Also, I can read a million reviews online but can I trust them like the advice I get from posters here? No.

Having said that, my research did reveal that 120Hz is TRULY the highest a TV will go at this point. So I do believe I could get away with that even though I'd love to have 240Hz & the level of TV I'm looking at comes with it.

Regarding the 4K content, yes... it's coming & soon. Hell, it's already out & I'm happy enough with watching movies on it. Of course I'd love to watch sports on it so I'll have it when they catch up I suppose. I also like the OLED but will not pay that kind of $$$.

Again, thanks & ---->at the 8 track, cassette comments. I can't keep up anymore.

You need to look for something higher than 240, if you ask me. It's a simulated 240, but a simulated 480 or 960 is much better.

39" Insignia from Best Buy for $199. You don't need to take out a 2nd mortgage to watch TV.
