I got addicted to them when I used to take long road trips. Lots free on YouTube btw. I've done these recently:
all the Game of Thrones (twice...talking like 75 hours a book ha).
Girl on a Train
Gone Girl
Dark Places
Ready Player One
9th Life of Louis Drake
Mr Mercedes series
Thinking about:
King Killer series? Apparently it's being adapted for movies now.
The Devil in the White City
King's Dark Tidings
Any suggestions would much appreciated.

Kingkiller is amazing if you're a fan of fantasy stuff.

It's worth joining Audible for the free trial, and then cancel and they will offer you a low rate for 3 months.
In the meantime they have some excellent sales - lots of books for only a few bucks.
My favorite audiobook is still No Country for Old Men.
The Master and Commander series is great, 20 books and I've listened to each several times.

I second the Kingkiller Chronicles.
After that, try out Brandon Sanderson. The Mistborn Trilogy is great. The Stormlight Archive series is turning out to be my favorite. Also Tim Gerard Reynolds voices all his books, and he's the best in the biz.

Here are some that are just very good books. I've got them all on audiobook as well so I can recommend the audio versions too. These are all in the political/spy/military/international relations realm, so may not be what you like. All are kind of educational but still really entertaining, which is what I try to find for my commute.
Power of the Dog and The Cartel by Don Winslow - Fantastic Mexican cartel/war on drugs novels that are very closely tied to reality and which span like 30 years. Solid 45 hours of audio between them. Can learn a lot about Mexican politics, cartels and drug war issues from these, and they're very entertaining (if bleak).
Dan Silva books - Probably the smartest series if you're into the page turner spy/badass protagonist stuff. Lots of historical, political, art and travel detail in these.
An Officer and a Spy - Historical fiction based on the Dreyfuss affair in France. One of my favorite books.
Red Sparrow and Palace of Treason by Jason Matthews - These are probably the best spy novels out right now. Written by former CIA officer, they're recommended by the CIA and have a ton of authentic detail about USA-Russia relations. They're also very entertaining but not at all cheesy. Going to be made into movies, supposedly with Jennifer Lawrence.
I Am Pilgrim - Probably the most unique spy/detective type of book in the last several years. Nothing standard about it so it's hard to describe, but very interesting. Also going to be a big anticipated movie in next couple years.

BBC - Desert Island Discs -- A celebrity is interviewed and plays their favorite records. A lot more interesting and entertaining than it sounds. On the air since 1942 -- it's the second oldest radio series in the world (after the Grand Ole Opry). 500+ episodes online -- I've listened to about 40-50, including Paul McCartney, Randy Newman, Mel Brooks, and even Field Marshall Montgomery (from 1969).
In Our Time -- BBC History roundtable discussion
BBC Podcasts
The long-locked but (old times there are) not forgotten Old Time Radio thread -- Sort of like very short audio books

I started this exact thread a few months back and Kingkiller Chronicles was recommended to me, so I started them and really liked them a lot.

Any of the Joe Ambercrombie books! The narrator is excellent.

The best book on that list is Devil in the White City. I'm assuming you know it's historical non-fiction though, right?
Kingkiller is good but be warned that the 3rd book isn't out and might not ever be out at this point. Everyone I talk to regretsbstatting the story because they feel they'll never see the end of it.
