Nagini the snake

Had a co-worker and fellow HP fan tell me that the snake Harry saved from zoo in book one later becomes Nagini. I called BS but he insisted that its true. Its been years but I don't recall her ever writing about this. Guess I should go back and read them again!

Nagini was made a horcrux before Voldemort killed Harry's parents and nearly killed himself.

Are you sure about that? I thought Voldemort made Nagini a horcrux sometime after he got his body back?
Anyways, I'm pretty sure I've heard they were the same, but it doesn't make sense, and I'm pretty sure that was just wrong.

That doesn't make sense because Voldemort made the horcruxes to preserve himself.
In fact, the only reason he survived his 1st encounter with Harry is because he had the horcruxes (+ the new Harry one)

Nagini was the last horcrux made to bring his total to what he thought was 6 horcruxes... He didn't know about Harry being one and Harry was before Nagini. He planned to kill Harry and make the 6th one, he didn't know he ended up making Harry one.
He made Nagini a Horcrux when he murdered Bertha Jorkins after Peter Pettigrew went back to him after Prisoner of Azkaban.

this...He was planning to make the 6th and final horcrux with the murder of Harry...didnt work out to well for him though
