I'm surprised some of the posters haven't said:

Birth of a Nation > Lincoln

Is the content of Birth of a Nation racist, and the beliefs of Lincoln not?

Thank you for the review man.... , i'm going to see this movie on Black Friday. I only go to see movies based on a true story and i only read non-fiction books so this is right up my alley.

You're going to have to clarify your question, sparky.

I agree. Had they ended it as he was leaving the White House it would have been PERFECT. Everyone knows what happens to him, there's no need to shove it down our throats.

I really wanted this to be the ending as well. I was thinking "C'mon, don't show lincoln getting shot."

In defense of the ending, I really liked how they included the end of Lincoln's Second Inaugural. It is one of the best American speeches ever and I'm glad they could include it. However, they probably could have still included it without showing his death.

Just saw "Lincoln" yesterday. A fine movie.

It actually was accurate and balanced. Of course, Lincoln was the hero of the script. But the movie did show his ruthlessness in getting the 13th Amendment passed (allowing the war to continue for weeks). And it demonstrated his ambivalence toward African Americans on a personal level (the discussion with the housekeeper).

Good performances all around.
