I saw this while at the movies yesterday. Is this a joke? If I was military I'd be insulted. Why even bother for such a little discount. Is this the norm at most theaters?

seems awfully patronizing, especially with tickets being like 10 bucks

why even offer a discount rate of $9.75 instead of $10? That's pointless. It's like tipping ten cents, sure you could've just left 0 but it's more about making a point. What is the point of offering such a tiny, miniscule discount? It's not even worth it.

For the OP, could you have misread the discount and it is actually just 0.25 total? Like not .25 off.

At first I thought you meant a ticket would only cost 25 cents. But yeah a ticket costing $8.75 instead of $9.00 is a pretty shitty deal.

ETA: on this note, does anyone know if cinemark at perkins rowe does student discounts?

I see the point, but IMO, .25 is better than money. I'm never going to complain if someone gives me money.

Think of it this way:

The theater's cut of that money is probably only a dollar or so.

Doesn't 25 cents seem more substantial now?

But seriously, to give seniors/military a big discount, they would have to pay money out of their pockets.

That is different from cutting into their profits on your ticket sale.

The vast majority of the ticket price is earmarked to Hollywood, and if they try to cut below that price they will still have to make up for it.

Yeah, The Cinemark at Perkins Rowe does. Not sure on the fixed amount though.

For a night showing of a 3D movie, that quarter must really come in handy. No, I didn't misread. It said $7.75 regular matinee price ($7.50 with the discount). If they make little of the tickets than give them discounts on the food they charge out of the arse for.
