I know Scorsese is famous for his great song selection. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any others who are great at this?

Songs, the winner is usually Tarantino.
For instrumentals....
John Carpenter
He even composes his own sometimes.

Robert Zemeckis, sort of, mainly for Forrest Gump.
Richard Linklater
Scorsese of course is the first one that came to mind.

Baz Luhrmann. Hell, pretty much all of his movies are glorified two hour music videos.

That reminds me of a British movie by Nick Love called "The Business." Run of the mill drug dealer story but it had me listening to Duran Duran and other 80's music for weeks.

Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor have done an incredible job on David Fincher's last three movies. The dark, industrial style of music fits in so well with Fincher's movies.

The Coen brothers really allow music to tell stories in some of their movies.

It's just as much about the music supervisor, budget for rights and the director's relationship/history with the artist (Scorsese with the stones)

Greg Mottola is a huge music geek and it comes through in his films

I have been really digging David Fincher's soundtracks lately.
