I was eagerly skeptical about TNG but it's success caused me to want to watch DS9. Over time I've preferred DS9.

While TNG had good character development DS9's seemed done better and was more evenly spread out. TNG seemed to focus more on Data and Picard as their primaries, then Worf, Wesley and Riker as the secondary tier, and finally Geordi, Deanna and whomever the doctor happened to be that season).

DS9's multi-season story arcs and darker tone also appealed to me more.

And then there's Garak.

I never could get into Voyager, it seemed they put diversity of cast over best for the job and I could never get beyond that.

I didn't have access to Enterprise when it was airing so I can't really comment.

TOS - That it's still so heavily in our culture after all these decades says far more about it than I ever could.

When you toss in Gul Dukat - DS9 - had 2 of the strongest recurring supporting characters (one "anti-hero" and one antagonist) - and we haven't even mentioned Weyoun, yet.

DS9 didn't have anything like Data - I'll admit - Data was almost as strong a character (over time, and had a complete arc relative to a lot of ST characters) as Spock - after all, he was the Spock of TNG. BUT, when you consider the civilians of DS9 - Kai Wynn, Quark (and the other Ferengi), Garak - the persistent universe of DS9 compared to just 1 away mission after another in the other series - the environment itself lends itself to better storytelling, IMO.

Kirk banged the android chick who died when she was confused.

Should've banged Mireau's counterpart. Probably would've been the best he ever had.
