I love Gary Olman. I agree he is very versatile but I don't get why people when talking about his roles mention Batman. I'm like the dude didn't do anything special or have to reach for that role at all. He played himself with a badge.
Everybody loves DDL and he deserves the praise so I won't talk about him.
Brad Pitt is somebody that gets no respect when it comes to being versatile. He is a great character actor. Twelve Monkeys, Fight Club, SNATCH, The Assasination of Jessie James by the Coward Robert Ford, Burn After Reading, Inglorious Basterds, The Curious Case of Benjamen Button. He has a lot of other good movies but those are some he had to step outside the box a good bit and showed his versatility as an actor.
Some others that don't get much love: Viggo Mortenson, Phillip Seymore Hoffman, Jim Carey (yeah you heard me), Casey Affleck, not the present day Val Kilmer, Micky Rourke, Jude Law, I'd say Guy Pierce but he gets a lot of love around here. I'll have to think a minute on it for more.
Edit: to correct me using the word diverse twice

Look at his resume and the quality of the performances and tell me I'm wrong

Doesn't it have to be a black guy to be "diverse"?

Tyler Perry and it isnt even close.

In my opinion, there is none other than Denzel.

Gary Oldman's probably the right answer, but Robin Williams in his prime was incredible at everything. Michael Sheen's awesome in a variety of stuff too.
