***Spoiler alert for any neanderthals who have not seen Fight Club***
If you seriously sat down and watched that movie for the first time with no idea what was going to happen, and halfway through thought, "Well yeah, clearly the Brad Pitt character does not actually exist and is all in Ed Norton's head," then I would like for you to tell me what numbers to pick in Powerball because the only explanation is that you are a goddamn prophet. You can say you didn't like the movie and that's cool, but predictable? Come on.

I had the thought, but had no idea how it made sense with people watching him fight outside the store but the reveal was still pretty awesome

Black Mass recently was the most disappointing movie to me. I thought that movie was about to be fricking incredible and it was far from it.

Well based off the praises of this board, I was very disapointed in Cabin in the Woods and Guardians of the Galaxy
You would have thought both were the second coming of Shawshank according to guys on here.

American Hustle
The teaser trailer came out almost a year before the film and looked incredible. David O Russell was riding really high off of Silver Linings playbook, Bale, Cooper and JLaw were all rocketing. This was going to be a cant miss GOAT movie. I was hyping the shite out of it for weeks on Faceboook and in my own mind. Saw it in the theatre on opening weekend, and came away dissapointed.
That said, it's not a bad movie and I think it gets better on multiple rewatches. Jeremy Renner was really great.
Just didn't live up to the build up in my head. Not sure it could've.

******DOUBLE SPOILER ALERT RE: FIGHT CLUB******
Maybe it was a combination of the high praise the movie got and the knowledge that it had a twist ending that made me watch the movie very closely, scanning for details.
That combined with a professional background in mental health.
The clues that Norton had serious mental health problems were obvious from the opening monolague. The literal "glitches" in the film made me think that his thought process was disjointed at a minimum. I initially started looking for time lapse issues and/or chonology issues, like in Memento, because of that.
Then when Brad Pitt's character insists that Norton not talk aboout him to the girlfriend, I knew that either Pitt or Helena Bonham Carter's character (or both) were imaginary. Then shortly afterward, Pitt's character becomes even more bizarre and transitory.
It bothered me because, a) mental illness is not like that. Split personalities rarely if ever have no idea that each other exist, or as is most common, when they know about each other, they don't converse as if they are two separate individuals not aware that they don't exist in the same body.
The other bothersome thing is that it's simply unbelievable that so many people would be willing to join a cult that revolves around getting regularly beat up in fights, and then in overwhelming numbers follow the leader into more and more brazen, pointless, and violent attacks.
The whole movie was about setting up an absurd reality that gets "revealed" as simply the machinations of a demented mind (split personality), but ALSO that the demented person was able to convince so many others to participate in the dementedness.
Lastly, what the hell was the final suicide attempt? Did he shoot himself or not? If so - give me a break! If not - what was the movie about? Just to trick the audience? Deus ex machina? Nothing you just watched is knowable as either real or the workings of a demented mind?
Other than that, it was great.

Interstellar. I heard such good things about it but I just couldn't get into it. Not a very good movie.

The Revenant is a beautiful letdown. Most recently, Rogue One. It's just not a good movie.

Spider-Man 3 turned into a MST3K fest for my friends and me in the theater. frick that movie.
Additionally, There Will Be Blood, which I didn't make it through.
Perhaps most disappointedly, I couldn't fricking stand the Master. I hated it. Hated everything about it. Only redeeming thing about it was the acting, but even that was a bit over the top.

I can understand not loving Interstellar but by any measure I think it qualifies as a good movie.

I concur with The Master. That was disappointing.
Indy's Alien Adventure has to be near the top for me because I was expecting so much more from that team. Last Crusade is awesome fun.
The Alien Adventure was a fail on every level. Bad story, bad direction, really bad story, scenes switching from day to night in seconds. Some folks struggling with magnetism while the person next to them forgot what they were supposed to be doing.
Alien race loves peaceful native tribe but if someone returns the mask the whole area is destroyed? Huh?
Just all around crap. South Park got this one right on the money.

The Phantom Menace.
Such a fricking tragedy that Lucas couldn't make decent prequels with that cast, a good premise, and unlimited resources.
Indiana Jones 4 was also pretty disappointing.

Talladega Nights
Was it bad? No, not really. It was just so BORING.
You got Ferrell, Reilly, Baron Cohen, an extremely loaded cast doing a comedy making fun of NASCAR! And that's ALL you got? You pulled a ton of punches.

High expectations will lead to disappointment. Go into it expecting the movie to be predictable and average, you'll probably end up enjoying it more.
I'm not saying these movies are BAD, just disappointing
Inception - 15 minutes in and I had to turn it off. Just could not get into it, was putting me to sleep. I'll try to give it another chance one day.
Dark Knight Rises - Good movie, but huge drop off from TDK. Big letdown, probably because I love TDK too much.
The Revenant - It was alright. I'll probably never watch it again though.
Black Mass - Watched it twice. It was better on a second viewing but still just didn't work for whatever reason.
Man on Fire - Overrated. I see this all the time on people's favorite movie list. I didn't think it was that great.
John Wick - See above.

Superman Returns
Waited 20 years to see Superman back on the screen and I had to sit through that snoozefest. What a wasted opportunity.
