Anyone else been going to these movies? They show at midnight on Friday and Saturday then 10 PM on Sunday.

So far I've watched Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, and Castle in the Sky. All superb. They just added 5 more for November. Highly recommend going if you're bored on a weekend night in NOLA.

Miyazaki didn't do "The Cat Returns". And not the biggest fan of Ponyo either. Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke should have replaced them.

They already played those last month. Read the OP.

I didn't realize they were doing this. Wish I would have caught Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away in theaters. I'll have to try to catch some of these. Thanks for the heads up

I gotcha.

So far I've caught Howl's, Spirited Away, Totoro, Castle in the Sky, and Mononoke.

Plan to continue making it to Prytania every weekend. Ready for Nausicaa!

Anyone here seen Wind Rises?

How are miyazaki's other films?

I dont particularly care for anime, but I really enjoyed Spirited Away.

1. Nausicaa the manga is 1500+ pages and if you see the potential offered by this movie, do yourself a favor and pick up the entire thing and read it.

2. Spirited Away - GREAT movie beginning to end.
3. Princess Mononoke
4. Castle in the Sky
5. Totoro
6. Kiki's Delivery Service
7. Grave of the Fireflies
8. Howl's Moving Castle
9. Ponyo

I wasn't a huge fan of Nausicaa tbh. I've always said it's a poor man's princess mononoke

They are all really good. The artwork get's better in the 90s films as opposed to some of the 80s artwork. Princess Mononoke, Porco Russo, Castle in the Sky are pretty incredible. Much better than anything Walt Disney created IMO.

I don't like anime either and I don't really put this in that genre with the other crap. Miyazaki himself has publicly condemned anime.

Yeah, I like Nausicaa (definitely liked her character), but I've felt the same way. Just think Mononoke was the better complete package and I identified with it more. Better characters, better environment, better animation, and far more violent. Mononoke is in my Top 10 movies ever. Naussica just isn't as masterfully done.

Haven't read the Manga though, which I heard is much better than the movie.

Ponyo is amazing.

I told you this before, but I like it because it talks about seas from eras in Earths history.

I don't hate Ponyo, I just don't buy the concept and find it a bit creepy. A love story between 2 five year olds just doesn't work. I remember at that age I was confused that my parents didn't always know each other. Should have aged them up a few years.
