It really was astounding. Aronofsky can pull shite out of his actors that no one has really seen. It's incredible.

He made Marlon Wayans look like a great actor.

He is just awful, imo, and that is politics aside.

The Wrestler is definitely one of my favorite movies. Love his entrance to "Sweet Child of Mine"

Rourke is one of those actors that is quietly building up a really solid resume and will continue to get overlooked until the Academy decides to give him a "make up" Oscar for a role that won't be his best.

Yup.

I don't know about best of the last 20 years, but that performance is absolutely fantastic.

Great movie, for that year, yeah defintiely agree. But 20 years? What other arbitrary number can we pull out of our asses.

It's hard to know how good someone can act if they are constantly doing bad comedies

Adam Sandler can perform better than what he puts forward

He only won because Prop 8 had passed in CA so they had to give something to the gays.

Aronofsky made Leto look like a superstar decades before the guy won an Oscar. He made Hugh Jackman look like a real leading man in dramas well before he played in Les Miserables. He got Portman her first Oscar. He got Rourke and Tomei the nomination. The guy in Pi doesn't really even act anymore and he was electric. And he made Marlon Wayans look like he could be the next Poitier (though clearly he couldn't). The only movie he's done that hasn't teased out the talent of the actor was Noah. He has a knack for making actors look fantastic.

shite, Daniel Day-Lewis as anyone says hi. Also Heath Ledger as the Joker. Rourke was pretty awesome though. Definitely a top 5 performance over the last 20 years

Honorable mentions: Javier Bardem in No Country, Waltz in Inglorious Basterds

But no. That's a mighty big meatball there.

And goodness some of you need a enema. Sean Penn won cause of Prop 8? No he won cause his performance of a man most of us could never be was fantastic. The hate some have for "others" is sickening
