I'm not one of those "there must be a woman on every show" people, but I think a cool female judge might be a good contrast/personality.

Kind of like Joe was. Zing!

I always felt that Joe tried to hard to be the bad guy. The new judge should just be herself, be fair and the respect will definitely follow.

This is always much better than Hell's Kitchen -- which is really just Ramsey yelling at people because they can't cook fricking scallops, and the cooks on MC don't look like they just crawled out of a dumpster.

HEY--OOOOOOOOO!

Would have loved to see Anne Burrell, but I'm sure this chick will do fine. Love Master Chef.

I still have not been able to find out if the "home chefs" get access to basic recipes either during the taping or leading up to the taping--especially for baking challenges, where ingredients and ratios have to be very precise.

FYI: If you like Master Chef, you will also love The Great British Baking Show, known in U.K. as "GBBO"--Great British Bake-Off. A new season should be airing over there now, and will be in the U.S. later in the year.

Got hooked on the original from Australia on AFN while in Iraq. Haven't seen any of the US version.

So far every season has had great moments and great chefs. Each year seems to get better.

This is from the above link:

While the shooting schedule for MasterChef may not be quite as grueling as the 20-hour days for four weeks straight the Top Chef contestants must endure, they are shooting six days a week for eleven weeks (and yes, Joe Bastianich, Gordon Ramsay, and Graham Elliot stick around that whole time).

Says Josh, “We cook every single day except Sunday. On Sunday we either have free time in the kitchen or in a cooking class.”

Wait, what now? You read correctly: cooking class. We were wondering how two non-bakers with no culinary training made three soufflés in 60 minutes. As it turns out, the MasterChef-testants do get a bit of training behind the scenes, and everyone has access to “a full library of pretty much every cookbook in the world” between challenges to study. But no one has any prior knowledge of what the challenges will be, no one gets to consult the library during challenges, and the cooking classes aren’t necessarily specifically tailored to that week’s challenges.

I really enjoy this show and actually think it is great that they do get some instruction as the show really does seem to care about developing the contestants into chefs.

He will be my favorite as well. According to Nola.com:

quote:

Romero is one of three Louisianians competing in the sixth season, which begins May 20 at 7 p.m. on Fox. Romero, a petroleum landman, joins Natasha Clement, a bartender from LaPlace, and Charlie Chapman, an HVAC technician from New Orleans, in representing the state.

I agree with this. I like HK, but this is more real to me.

C'mon guys. The real Masterchef started two weeks ago...in Australia.

If you think the American version cares, you haven't seen anything yet. The cooks are better on the Aussie version, there is no drama or fighting, and I'm more impressed every year with that show.

My favorite cooking show. They pick the cook that cooks the best; not just the best cook (the top chef way).

Now they don't have the tryout shows anymore?

Basically they audition whether in person or by sent-in-video. But this season instead of the 20 contestants just arriving for introductions, they will be paired for a cook-off tonight and only 20 will remain to start season. Should be interesting.

Really disappointed that Jesse Romero didn't get some air time to show his potential. After watching it looks like he did made the cut or did I miss something?
