Is that story really interesting enough to warrant a movie?

Margot Robbie could be lacing up her skates to play Olympian figure skater and tabloid star Tonya Harding.
The Suicide Squad star is attached to a feature called, I, Tonya, being developed by Bryan Unkeless and his Clubhouse Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Robbie would also have a producing role through her LuckyChap Entertainment.
Steven Rogers is writing the screenplay about the blue-collar Harding,, who was pitted against the more elegant Nancy Kerrigan at the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, where Kerrigan was attacked by a man who struck her a few inches above the knee.
While both Kerrigan and Harding made the Olympic team that headed to the Lillehamer Olympics (where Kerrigan won a silver and Harding finished eighth), the attack was traced back to Harding's ex-husband Jeff Gillooly and her bodyguard Shawn Eckhardt. Harding struck a plea agreement, admitting to conspiring to hinder prosecution, and was banned from U.S. Figuring Skating and stripped of her 1994 U.S. Championship.
Rogers, repped by Gersh, wrote the recent Love the Coopers and has credits that include 2007's P.S. I Love You and 2001's Kate & Leopold.
Robbie, repped by CAA, Management 360 and Jackoway Teyerman, is currently appearing on screen in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and will also be seen in the upcoming The Legend of Tarzan.

Tanya Harding looks nothing like that, never did.

"Nancy Kerrigan...are you an official here? Because you have officially given me a boner"

Hopefully there will be a trashy frick scene involving a trailer park and some Vaseline.

Her hotness will drive the limited box office turnout.

she's too hot to play Tanya Harding

What's the point of this movie? There are dozens of sports movies that would be more interesting than this.

A Tonya Harding movie could be fantastic if they did it with the right level of humor. Not sure Robbie is the best choice though because she's too hot.

She is definitely too hot for this role.

They're really gonna have to dress her down.

Also, Robbie is pretty A-list right now. She doesn't need to be doing this kind of movie. Honestly, It's more suited for Lifetime, starring a grownup actress from some 90's sitcom.

It seems to me this is perfect soap opera fodder that Hollywood loves.
She grew up dirt poor in a trailer in Oregon and was abused by her mother and had 6 step-dads.
She did a lot of weird shite to stay afloat as a celeb and make money...boxing, wrestling, sex-tape, music band...and...
But people forget, she wasn't some bum...that's what makes it crazy...she wasn't some scrub trying to make the team.
At the 1991 World Championships, Harding again completed the triple axel jump (becoming the first American woman to perform it at an international event) but finished second to Kristi Yamaguchi.
At the Fall 1991 Harding recorded three firsts for female skaters:
1. The first woman to complete a triple axel in the short program;
2. The first woman to successfully execute two triple axels in a single competition;
3. The first ever to complete a triple axel combination with the double toe loop.
If they can make a movie about mop woman, they can make a movie about this crazy Olympic wanna-be mafia soap opera...and the star skater who probably didn't need it.

As ESPN said in a piece published 20 years after the Tonya Harding, Nancy Kerrigan saga: "Even with the benefit of hindsight, it's hard to pick out which part of the tale was most bizarre." This story was one of the first to really unfold in front of the cameras, and the world couldn't stop watching. Everyone watched Harding's career implode in real time with a broken shoelace ending her hopes for the gold and news conferences revealing her part in the attack. That broadcast of Kerrigan and Harding's match-up still ranks as the sixth-highest rated TV show of all time. It was a real-life soap opera that always deserved a big screen version. That why, 22 years later, it's not crazy to hear that it's heading to theaters, but that it took this long.

Tonya should be thrilled. Seems like this would be a Charlize Theron to Aileen Wuornos type of film.
