I'm at the end of Ep4 where the Prince appears atleast superficially to be shot, but not by Frank.

I really, really want to like this show because the concept is awesome. It just feels like the pacing is much too slow and the storyline is overly ambiguous. Please tell me it gets better? I'm almost at the point where I can't get any buy in to the show and may stop watching.

The only thing honestly that even remotely interests me at this point is wtf is Joe going to do now that Juliana left on the bus. Obergruppenführer Smith is going to be pissed when he finds out what happened.

Truly a wasted concept.

I'm thru 7 as of last nite

I wouldnt say it gets any "better" - but it doesnt get "worse"...this pace you're seeing at Ep4 is sort of the baseline, which is a bit disappointing, because I thought it started strong out of the gate

My question is when did the timeline diverge? It obviously happened prior to Summer of 1942.

all I caught so far was that seemed to divert from our history was:

-Roosevelt assassination
-"they dropped the bomb"

I'm assuming that infers either Japan or Germany dropped an atomic bomb.

There's so much dialogue sometimes, I think it's easy to miss stuff, and to date, I havent seen anything of a preface or flashback as to how we got here....I do wish they'd give a little more background other than trying to extrapolate from the subtle reference points in the dialogue

SPOILERS

I know Heydrich was assassinated in June 1942 in our timeline and he shows up in the later episodes.

it becomes clear in the middle of the season who dropped the bomb.

Maybe I view it more casually but I find it pretty good and easy to follow. I'm sure if I scrutinized it more I would have concerns.

I am through the series now, just recently. There is much to be discussed after episodes 9 and 10.

Just finished Ep5. I'm done with the show. Ridley Scott killed a great concept.

I just finished the season and so far the think it's way better than the book. I read the book this past spring and if anyone killed the concept it was Phillip K. Dick. Honestly the worst book I've read in the past 10 years in terms of ending. I'm glad the show hits the major plot points from the book, but if the ending is what was in the book it will be a complete fail. One thing I wish they did I the show was highlight the I Ching more and explain its significance to the audience

The show's supposed to be based loosely off the book so doubt it will end however the book did.

I see what you are saying here, I had the same complaint. It does get better and finishes really strong with the last two episodes. The ending was fantastic, IMO.

I'm also through episode 4.

This is dumb, but I had minor surgery Thursday and watched the first 2 with some pain meds.

Is joe a legit nazi? Was he lying to the resistance warehouse boss? He seemed convincing if so.

I'm trying to piece together the divergence too.

SPOILERS MAY FOLLOW.

Best I can tell, the Germans invaded the east coast ("my buddy's brains blown out at Virginia beach" - episode 1), and were either unsuccessful and Washington DC was nuked thereafter by the Germans, or it was nuked before but unlike the japonese it did not cause an unconditional surrender (hence the need for invasion).

I though that perhaps the Germans and Russians had peacefully divided Eastern Europe and traded for Caucasus oil, but someone at some point implies Nazi control of at least European Russia as well.

Nazi Germany also has complete dominion over the Middle East and Africa, so presumably the deviation is at the very latest just before some turning point in the Africa campaign.

There's a few other hints to the geopolitical changes prior the current time, but I'm failing to remember them bow.

Book's background story
quote:

The assassination of US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 led to the weak governments of John Nance Garner (formerly FDR's Vice President) and subsequently of Republican John W. Bricker in 1941. Both failed to lead the country to recovery from the Great Depression and also maintained the country's isolationist policy against participating in World War II; thus, the US had insufficient military capabilities to assist the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany or to defend itself against Japan in the Pacific. The Nazis conquered the Soviet Union and exterminated most of its Slavic peoples; allowing a few to live in reservations. In the Pacific, the Japanese destroyed the US Navy fleet in a decisive attack on Pearl Harbor, then conquered Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Oceania during the early 1940s. Afterwards, the Axis Powers, attacking from opposite coasts, conquered the coastal US and by 1947, the US and the remaining Allied forces had surrendered to the Axis.

The pace is waay to slow, should've been 2/3 as many episodes as they went with.

If you're not feeling it now maybe take a break. I did around the middle of the seaaon and came back to it with lowered expectations and liked it enough.

The actor playing the obergruppenfuher kept me interested if nothing else.

Dick had some amazing concepts that were pretty pedestrian in execution. Thats
