Twenty minutes in with no thread, I suppose everyone is saving this for after GOT.

I didn't want to put in episode thoughts in the OP for people who hadn't started yet, but Cutler yelling at Bob Benson for never being upstairs where his office is supposed to be was awesome.

Also, Democratic National Convention tonight.

Don is really screwed now. He even said it himself on the Airplane. If getting away from all of the decay in his life and going to Cali can't help him anymore, then he is in a really bad way.

At his worst in previous seasons, a trip to California seemed to bring him back to life, but it was just more of the same this time.

Campbell is in worse shape than draper. But at least he handles his weed better.

Part of me thinks that the slo-mo smash cut to black tonight might have just been Pete saying F-It. Maybe he's realized that what he's been thinking of as success is a bunch of bull. Whatever the results, that scene to end the episode was awesome.

As much as I love GOT, I feel like I might put Mad Men just a notch above it. It's incredible.

Eta: and where the hell is Springfield? Hasn't been around for the last two weeks

I agree about Pete. I'm thinking he takes it to another level like a boss.

Yep.

I hated when Ted's partner (forgot his name) freaked the frick out on my boy Bob Benson, yelling at him to go back upstairs. Bob Benson is carrying that firm, I don't care that they lost Manischewitz (MAZEL TOV!) under his watch, he did his fricking best.

Roger rules again:

"Our biggest challenge is to not get syphilis."

Then bring the Pilots a round of drinks.

I love how this show can sometimes make me pull/sympathize for my two most hated characters (Joan and Pete).

The Joan/Peggy interactions are always great. Definitely one of the best character dynamics on the show.

Don's downward spiral has been the focus of the season, but Pete's has been equally fun to watch. He is entering "frick it all" mode.

Gotta love Bob Bunson making moves He will be running the company before this season is over.

The first part of this season was awesome but the last three episodes have been epic. With a strong close and finale, this will have been the best season of Mad Men yet.

I am happy they took a little break from Don this week and gave some more focus to Roger and Joan.

Agreed, I've enjoyed the flashbacks to Don's childhood. But im more interested in where SC&P is going.

Just caught the episode. Fantastic. The ending with Pete and Janis playing in the background was just brilliant.

So thoughts on Don's near death experience? Is it a suggestion that the Don we know is dead?

Roger slayed me again this episode.

I just keep focusing on how this is the first time that Don has gone to California and it hasn't had a rejuvenating affect on him. Paraphrasing Roger, "You went to California and caught a cold"

Also, I know that this board is big time Team Bob Benson, but I think Cutler has been an even better addition to the cast. He cracks me up constantly, and I hope we get a lot more of him and Roger on screen together. Every scene where it has happened so far this season has been absolute money.
