I just finished season 1 last night and have really mixed feelings on this one. I was really enjoying it up until Cottonmouth died. Who on earth thought that killing the most compelling character off, halfway the first season, was a good idea? Diamondback was a boring, run of the mill, insane stock-villain without believable motivations. The death of Cottonmouth ruined what could have been a good show.

Cottonmouth was interesting until they turned him into a bitch.

They really dropped the ball with him.

I'm not sure if there is a connection but the guy that played that character is Mahershala Ali. When I saw him in that show I immediately thought no way he's there past a few episodes.

Even still, he was a way better villain than Diamonback.

I thought Diamondback's motivations were suspect, and the coincidence of him being Luke's half brother from a small town 900 miles away and being some international weapons dealer with access to alien tech was a little too much for me.

This was a major problem for me. I just couldn't buy it.

Didn't even finish this show because Cottonmouth was such a boring villain and Luke Cage was such a boring hero. The whole thing was well trod boredom set to a catchy soundtrack

Well, if you thought Cottonmouth was boring it's a good thing you didn't wait around for Diamondback.

I didn't like Cottonmouth at first, but he grew on me, and i was liking his story. It was very stupid for them to kill him off.
The series was definitely the worst of the 3 they've made so far. Luke Cage is better as a supporting character, much like the Punisher. He doesn't need his own show either.
What made JJ and DD2 great was having that second character with them in Cage and Punisher.

I generally like all of the Marvel shows on Netflix, and I liked Luke Cage.

BUT...

The seasons run too long. You get fatigue from watching them.

They need to cut the seasons down to 10 episodes or less.

Think about it this way. In 2.5 Avengers movies, we've spent what, about 7 total hours with the Avengers (as a team)?

We just spent 13 hours with Luke Cage.

It bored me too. Quit after 4 episodes. The Shades character was weird.

Shades reminded me of Aaron Hernandez except Shades killed less people.

I agree. Cottonmouth was by far the most interesting character in the show. Mahershala Ali was obviously head and shoulders above all the others on screen with him in every scene as an actor. No one else had the chops to hang with him.

He didn't even look menacing. But I quit after four episodes so maybe there's more to him than I know.

I would be much more interested in a show about the rise of Cottonmouth than another season of Luke Cage.

You get a bit of his history later on and he becomes an almost sympathetic character.

That's just about right. If Game of Thrones can do it in 10, surely the Defenders )as a group, and in their individual shows), can do it in 10 or less.

Looking forward to it.
