Perhaps the best relationship movie I've ever seen and two of the best acting performances of the last 20 years.
I know some people don't get this movie, hell I hated it upon first viewing when I was just a teenager, but as you get older, the film simply gets better. It's a masterpiece of modern cinema.

Very good movie about relationships and where you are at in life.
When you are young and full of life you seem to take a lot of things for granted.
The older you get the more you realize how you were and what ends up being most important.

Sean Penn was great in Mystic River, but Bill Murray deserved the Oscar that year. That performance sticks with you, for sure.

Been a huge Phoenix fan ever since watching the movie

and that movie captures exactly what it feels like to arrive alone in Japan on business whee you have a host company or employees taking care of you. what a freaking whirlwind that is.

I really like this movie and I can watch it a few times a year.
But I think I'm the only one I know IRL that really really enjoys it.

great movie and one of the best at "location/setting as a character"

That's a great movie -- best one to come out during the 2000s. And Scarlett Johansson has never looked better than she did in this.

An American-made movie with A list stars about real live human beings. No emotional manipulation, no car chases, nobody gets shot. Go figure. I love this film.

Sorry, meant to up vote you, but accidentally down voted when I started daydreaming about Scarlett's panties.
Great movie and great soundtrack

It's easily at the top of the list for this. Tokyo is really the main character if the film. Everyone rotates around it.
There are just so many ways in which the movie works on so many different levels. It's essentially a simple film with big themes.
The bed scene alone should've won them both Oscars.
And as for the music... It's one of the best use in a film ever.
Alone in Kyoto
Karaoke Scene
The point in the film where everyone, including Bill Murray, falls in love with Scarlett.

I wish it was Suntory time right now.

Agree. Back when I was doing Engineering work, I was employed by a Japanese company. Went there a bunch. Fun trip the first 3 times. After that, it sucked.

Agreed - the way Sophia framed Tokyo is perfection, IMO.

Love the part - the songs are on point. It's one of those scenes where it makes you think, "this is something I would never usually do but it would be fun as hell to be in a foreign country doing that..."
