That's the snakes right? Gave me nightmares as a kid. I still remember them freezing the frame to end the show right when that water moccasin got him in the face.

Yes.

When Jake kicks his own horse followed by Gus' reaction.

If you're still lookin' for Jake Spoon you can stop, cause he fell in with a bad bunch and we hung him.

Gus's speech is what takes the scene to next level.

"...best just to ride off from it."

Sure, when it was Sean's death, Gus was like "just ride off from it"

But when it was his own death, Gus was like "carry my corpse all the way back to San Antonio and bury me in the pecan grove besides the river."

Just kidding - this is one of my two favorite shows/movies/mini-series of all time.

My brother and I love this series and every once in a while we play Lonesome Dove trivia.

Ex: What is the name of Newt's horse?

Never seen it, but I really need to...even though I now know that Sean dies. I figure a lot of folks die in the series, so no biggie.

Just realized I can watch it through STARZ online. Cool!

It's about 10 hours long and set in 1870s Texas and the Great Plains. There's a pretty high mortality rate. You should still watch it, even though you now know a minor character dies.

Yea Woodrow was the one describing hanging Spoon to July, but I was saying Gus's graveside speech for Sean is what makes the scene.

Deets death and burial is hard to watch as well.

Nope. He says it's name once in the miniseries.

GOAT Western. One of the greatest movies of any genre. When it originally aired, it was one of those movie events the whole family gathered to watch. Kinda miss those. IT was another.
