Growing up these were 2 of my all time favorites. I still will sit and watch if I ever happen to catch them on TV.

Both with slightly similar stories, which to a kid around that age were both badass. These 2 will always be linked together, so that begs the quesiton of which is better? I know it's like picking a favorite child, but if you HAD to give the nod to one, which would it be?

For me, even though it is an extremely tough decision, I think I'd have to go LBL.

How do you choose LBL over funky butt lovin'? Gardenhoser? HOT ICE?

You just heat up the ice cubes!

ETA: Damn Breesus.

As a kid, RotY. As an adult, LBL. I just like LBL better as I've grown up.

Like I said I have absolutely no bad things whatsoever to say about either, really just a personal preference. I mean how can you not like Lou Collins man?

More RotY gold:

quote:

I wrap the cake up in my vomit bag, and voila!... Breakfast!

quote:

Chet Steadman: Do me a favor, Henry. Don't take this game too seriously.
Henry Rowengartner: Why not?
Chet Steadman: Because one day it'll all be over. Your gift will be gone.

True breesus. But LBL gave us

-the awesome montage set to runaround sue
-lou asking billy to marry his mom, and billy saying only if he hits a homer
-the incomparable wally holland at announcer
-dropping water balloons from the hotel
-bowers, blackout gatling, and the rest of the twins
-and plenty more

Rookie of the year is the only answer here.

A better question probably would of been Sandlot vs. Rookie of the year.

I always enjoyed the batting/baserunning scene. "You big ugly piece of..." "Sheeeeittt!!!!"

One thing that always bothered me: No way Henry is playing little league at the end, right? I mean, he signed a major league contract. Surely hes not eligible, definitely not in NCAA ball. Also, with all his endorsements and cash, hes still wearing blue jeans at the end?

Sandlot. Sorry. That movie is the greatest reflection of the essence of baseball ever made. When James Earl Jones made his speech about baseball to Ray at the end of Field of Dreams, he was talking about that movie.

I picked these 2 because of their comparable subject matter. A young child who ends up being involved in a major capacity for a MLB team and is the central focus of that team and the movie's story. The child hits is big, loses touch with his buddies, hits a rough patch, realizes what's important, walks away from the game.

the sandlot, while awesome, is more about kids playing baseball one summer. Different subject matter.

Well considering that little mullet-wearing Billy Heywood was a cockblocking douche, you have to go with Rookie of the Year.

Chet Steadman > Ginger Lou

1) it's little league, I doubt they have the same restrictions as the NCAA
2) his gift was gone, so by that point he was just a regular kid like anyone else. He wasn't teh same player as when he was with the cubs.

he's still a kid.
