Who is Richard Parker?

Obvious spoilers here.

Which story the boy tells at the end do you think is true?

The book and movie present the same basic scenario in reference to what he told the media, but in a slightly different way as far as the boy's own reaction to what he is saying. Even those expressions can be interpreted differently - the way he doesn't think they believe him in the book and the tears he sheds in the movie.

None the less, the actual ending two stories in the book and movie are basically the same, and the reader or movie-goer is left with a choice. Which story he told do you believe was real?

And yes, I thought it was an excellent movie, one which leaves you pondering the surprise ending long after it's over.

I don't think so. The Title was "Life of Pi: Which story do you think is true?"

It could have meant: do you think the book story or the movie story is true, or any number of things about "which story do you believe is true?".

People who haven't seen it or read it will think it is about one of the many stories in the movie, or something within the movie itself. It doesn't really say anything to someone who hasn't seen or read it, nor does that simple thread title spoil the movie.

But hey I'll change it, if you guys think it's spoiling something. I guess I could have been more secretive and clever about it.

The title does give away that more than one story is potentially being told.

Alright, now it doesn't. So, what do you think?

Seems fine to me. I wasn't too worried about it, I just know how pissy some people get on here about spoilers.

As for the two stories, I think the one with humans is true, but the one with animals is how his mind coped with the situation.

Actually, you have the choice of 3 stories. A third interpretation of the ending could be that the “truth” is a mix of both stories. Like Pi and his three-tiered faith routine, the viewer/reader can always pick and choose the parts that benefit their preferred version of the tale.

The initial two stories (which leaves us a way to actually choose from three) is set up to help viewers/readers consider which version of the world they prefer – the one where we make our own way and suffer through the darkness via self-determination, or the one where we are aided by something greater than ourselves regardless of which version of “God” we may accept.

Are you a person who prefers to believe in things that always make sense/things that you can see? Or are you a person who prefers to believe in miracles/take things on faith? There are no right or wrong answers – just an opportunity for introspection.
